Could you guys work on putting digital outs on the 68, digital ins and outs on the SL-3 and upgrade the 57 to USB 2.0 and the ability to use the Aux for the SP-6? These should all be minor technical upgrades.

Oh if you do upgrade the 57 can you also make the graphics and knobs a little more viewable in the club. Maybe put the Rotary Empath knobs on the main controls?

serato are a company first and foremost and is all about making that $,
you can cry all day and tart as many threads you like on the matter but its in their best intrest to add it and any other feature we as dj's feel the software does not need if they think it will increase sales

Apparently numark is working on a 4 channel midicontroller/mixer. Think we most likely would se this integrated with itch 2.0 and the release of the bridge for Itch.
Maybe newer version of the bridge will be released also??

No, I just don't use it. It will not be the end of the road... at least not for another 24 months (lol).

i just bought an empath... it was 850, 250 less than it was online, so y'all might be right.

Personally, all I want is the SP-6 to be BPM synced to the adjusting tempo. I could really care less if the main decks (2, 3, or 4) are 'auto-synced". Keep that for Itch...just give us an "on the fly", tempo matched/synced sample player.
It would be the best of both worlds...and a compromise for the ScratchLIVE community.

Auto sync was release to Itch in version 1.7 in July of 2010. Itch has been around much longer than that.

Either way --- a Pioneer Itch unit would be dope!

Serato/rane has to be up to date, and midi in/out and sync is the regular evolution . i dont use sync but 3/4 decks sample beatmatch it s a useful feature.

Big name companies joining the controller market are good for us the consumer. I would imagine that in a world filled with hercules budget type controllers a Pioneer unit would raise the bar. Aside from a Xone 4D there is no controller that is widely accepted as a "professional" controller. There are some good ones out there (S4, NS7, DX, etc.) but there is still a big gap to bridge for Itch to be widely accepted as professional piece of gear.

Who knows....maybe it's a piece of junk? I would hope not.

Personally i would not hold your breath for a pioneer midi unit for serato, their track record speaks for itself they want control of the process as seen in their rekordbox software. I dont see them making a controller to benefit SL and take away from CDJ market-share....just my 2 cents on the issue take it for what its worth

Itch doesn't have a product that is widely accepted by what would be considered "professional" DJ's. I've seen a DX a number of times used at Space Miami, but I've never seen anyone there use a VCI-300 or DX there. Pioneer making a solid product would do wonders for Itch and the controller market.

Thats going to happen every time a company does a crappy job of preparing a markerting campaign and doesn't meet it's internal timelines. Companies leak info all the time, then introduce a product, then release them.

The Iphone 4 is great example (leaked, intro'd, released) all in a timely manner, and when done correctly lines wrapped around buildings on the day it dropped.

When done poorly you get what is stated above.

The only reason I can think of are Nik's long list. Products aren't ready and won't be for a while, so it would be a horrible business decision to set yourself up for a faceplant.

However, if your product is solid there would be no reason not to tease at this time when there's been plenty of new product buzz floating around lately.

With Technics out of the scene, a great quality in par with the 1200s would present a great market for new and older djs.

Yeah at those prices, the CDJ-2000's don't look so bad anymore. With Needle Search, it's almost the same experience. Now I just need to find $3,400 somewhere.

My last set of Tech's are still going strong to the person I sold them to......they are now 16 years old.....not a single repair required. I have had my M5G's for a little over 5 years now...I fully expect them to last just as long, if not longer. I won't buy another Direct Drive turntable ever again...it's not necessary. If anything, CDJ-2000's are in my future.

When playing on TT's, i have to nudge te record tiny bits the whole night to keep them in sync. Not to soft, because there will not be enough movement forward, but also not to hard, because the platter will lose his speed and your screwed. While scratching i have to be fast, but gentle, or my needle will fly away. Now, a lot of people will say: "well, prehistoric buddy, you won't have to worry about any of that with CDJ's!". And that's exactly the thing that bothers me the most about CDJ's.

Giving rescpect to your turntable, will result in getting respect FROM it. You build a sort of love for those things, because they're like humans; unpredictable and never the same. Like a '68 Ford Mustang. It needs an experienced driver to take a hairpin with 80MPH. Your mistakes or inexperience will be punished immidiatly.

With CDJ's you play on safe, but i just love the 'risk' of my 1200's. A lot of people will think i'm on drugs while typing this, but true vinyl lovers will know exactly what i'm talking about.


I'm not saying CDJ's are bad, it is the best CD-player ever made IMO, but to me they will never give me the joy of a turntable.

I agree with you. But Techs are dead! I learned on Techs, continue (to this day) to spin on Techs. I actually prefer a spinning, direct-driven turntable, but alas.......there is not another deck on the market with the feel of Techs, so looking to the future, I feel that CDJ-2000's are the closest thing (now that they have Needle Search) to giving you the benefits of spinning on Techs.

I don't like it either, but I have spun on Vestax, Numark, and Stanton TT's, and it's just not the same "for me". I won't support one of the previously mentioned companies unless they make a Tech1200 (M5G) replica, and I just don't see that happening. My hand is being forced here......I have to accept Technics' demise, and look forward.

By the way, I have already begun purchasing parts for both of my M5Gs.....I will hold out, and continue to spin vinyl (ScratchLIVE) as long as they will permit.....which I think will be for DECADES to come. But I'm still buying some CDJ-2000's once my budget will permit it.

I have a similar dilema,i have a pair og 1200gld's that i wont take them to gigs,what i use for gigs is a pair of cdj 1000 mk3's,not sure if i should sell them right now that i can still get good money for them and buy me another set of 1200's and use the remaining 1,000 towards more equipment or if i should keep the cdj's and wouldnt have to worry about bringing needles,slipmats and vinyls to gigs, :s anyone ever had to take that decision?

Ya for gigs keep the pioneers. Most clubs have them and so much easier to lug then 1200's.

I gave up CDJs about 3 years ago but still keep them around for rentals. They have more than paid for themselves just since I have stopped using them for my main rig. I also still use them if I require quick set-up or it's an outdoor event with less than ideal conditions.

other than that, Technics for life.....The amount of people who still play vinyl and will always play vinyl means there is always going to be a market for turntables. The trick is going to be remaining profitable when sales are a 15th of what they were at the peak.

I'm not comparing the experience/feel, I am comparing the functionality.

One of the greatest things I initially liked about ScratchLIVE was the ability to "needle drop" MP3s. Up until the NS7 & CDJ2000's were released, this was a feature exclusive to the Turntable/ScratchLIVE combination. That's how I am comparing a CDJ2000 to a Technics Turntable.

There is also another reason for the necessity of getting CDJs.....I spin Dance Music. Almost EVERY club/rave I play at has CDJs ONLY! When I insist that I play on Techs, it's "usually" up to me to bring my own. In the Dance Music scene, peeps are pretty much over the traditional vinyl setup. That's not to say that I am at the mercy of what the majority wants/requires, it's just to say that has been a challenge to continue to play on Techs as the years have progressed.

I will never sell, or stop playing on, or stop supporting Technics, but I gotta stay relevant!

That is exactly the reason why I got myself a xone:dx. I am used to dj with Technics TTs only. In Germany where I lived before, TT were pretty much the standard and showing up with vinyl and ssl was just fine. I live in Asia now and as long as you don't play huge venues, there is not one piece of equipment that you can expect. All kinds of CDJs and mixers and TTs or even monitor speakers are something of a rarity.

I always thought about buying CDJs but unfortunately I'm not djing that often anymore.

Although I use tt's still on a regular basis- I can see how CDJ's can seem appealing since they won't skip at all when you have a lot of bass around the booth. I can see myself maybe practically using them for outdoor events.

I've been using Relative for years without any issues. However, I hear you. With CDJs there is NO chance, whatsoever, of having isolation issues. But again, nothing beats the feel of a Technic & a Cartridge.

Can any CDJ2000 owners pipe in as to the functionality of the Needle Search with ScratchLIVE? If it sucks...if you still have to have the CDJ Deck paused whilst using it, then my argument is moot.

I just had an idea for the mythical rane turntable that people are imagining....have one of the little gyro sensors from the wii controller in the table itself and have calibrattion so that when the tables wobbles it auto puts it in internal mode. So say your spinning on a ship or on a wobbly stage it will be able to detect when the tables moving to prevent skippage

I use the blacks, & no one seems to say oh dj so & so is better than u he has white vinyl. No one gives a shit, they care about your selection & skill behind the tables! Thats all that really matters!

Noone in my area digs deep into this stuff so im the only one with any custom vinyl and its fun to have DJs stopping by the spot to see what vinyl im playin with on a given night

yeah i upgraded mine as well. Hitec HS5645MG high torque digital servo, 2.4 radio system, came with the 3.3 setup, HPI t-drift tyres etc... its the shit for real

It's a double edged sword though. If it's something entirely new, then teasing is fine. But if it's an update, teasing simply leaves existing stock sat on retailers shelves. And they won't be happy at all. And again, it tips your hand and gives your competitors information that could see them bring forward surprise announcements at the show that may overshadow yours.

Ok, here's my guess. This is based on pure speculation and anticipatory suspicion.
Based on the half hour block of moderator participation yesterday starting with Chad S


and basically ending with...


with additional comments dropped in throughout the day. I think it's reasonable to assume that 3 Rane/Serato moderators and 2 Tech Mates didn't jump on the Namm 2011 thread 8 days before Namm to talk about the weather. I think they were having a little fun with numbers. So let's dig a little...

I'm guessing the first important number was thrown out by Trevor and that number is 67 (see quote above) The next one was interjected by Steve M a little later in the day. That number is 43.

Speculation time...

According to my conspiratorial machinations, Rane will be announcing 2 new mixers at Namm. they will be the TTM 67 and the Empath 43.
The TTM67 will be a 2 channel Serato badged mixer styled after the 68. It will have Serato built in just like the TTM57 but will have the look and feel of the 68 including: Midi faders and encoders, Midi cue point buttons, a compact effects section with onboard effects and customizable midi control of Serato's internal effects, a layout/style more comparable to the 68 with green, orange, blue buttons and a non-mountable top plate. This will be the successor to the TTM57 and will sell initially for $1500.00 and then settle in to around $1200.00 by 2012. The 57 will be discontinued as soon as the 67 is released. (probably april 2011)

The Empath 43 will be a 10 inch, 4 channel, Rane mixer without Serato onboard. It will have: Midi faders and some Midi encoders (channel gains and high, mid, low, equalizers for each channel) It will also include 3 or 4 Midi assignable cue point buttons on each side. These will automatically correspond to the cue points of whichever deck is assigned left and right by the crossfader assign toggles on each channel. (pretty snazzy huh?) The new Empath 43 will replace the older versions and will have a similar styling: black and grey color scheme, and mountable lexan top plate. I'm thinking price will be around $999 at launch in January.

Also, both will have dual USB ports on the back and full Bridge integration for fader automation and other things. (Midi effects in Ableton maybe?) Although, the empath will not connect as a sound card obviously. The Empath will however be the hottest shit around when the SL4 is announced (June?) because it will have 4 channels/decks controlling Scratch Live and Ableton for about $1600.00 less than the 68.

I hope you've enjoyed my conjecture. I'm sure none of this is true. Mostly because I thought way to deeply into the whole weather conversation and also because these are the 2 mixers I've pictured in my head for about a year and probably have nothing to do with Namm. But none of the features I've mentioned above would be that difficult to incorporate and relatively inexpensive to implement. I'm sure we'll see a lot of these features in DJ mixers in the near future and hopefully at Namm. If these do exist soon, I surely hope they have Rane and Serato badges because those are the guys who can do it best. I'm looking forward to the announcements on the 13th and feel free to start your own conspiracy theories... Or just call me crazy.

Hosnestly I dont think its outside the relm of possibility that well see a 3 channel mixer, i dont see why theyd release a new 2 channel when the 57 still sells as well as it does. I also wouldnt be suprised to see an itch update and new controler. Lastly I wouldnt be suprised to see some sort of new X1 style midi device that is more intune with controlling effects and the bridge.

Remember last year the bridge was THE announcment and thus far I dont think serato or rane has released any OFFICIAL hardware to interact with that development yet

I heard tonight at the club that rane will be dropping a 2 channel mixer to compete with the new Vestax, It will be cheaper then the 57, and have improved MIDI.

I would love an updated Empath but I think the market for three channel mixers is too small. They rather develop a TTM57 with 2 USB Ports and more bells and whistles. What would be the point of ANOTHER soundcard? More channels? More USB ports? That would make the sl3 obsolete. And SL3 is already at the far end of the price scale. Nobody will buy a 1000€ Soundcard.

Maybe they create a little assistend within scratch live. Like that paper clip guy from windows xp.
