Hi DJ_Tykila%C2%A9.
As Serato and Pioneer have only recently released CDJ-2000 and CDJ-900 support, we don't have any current plans to support the 850 in the near future, so if you want native support I'd suggest looking at one of these for native control.

Dahuhn,
Don't forget that you buy players for what they do... not for what they (maybe) will do.
But this is Pioneer Powaa... we're all waiting for this native support... for the moment i keep mixing on Technics.

yes, i know, but to say that there is no plan in near future sounds not good...
i think the basic of the 850s is just like the 900 or 2000 and should be an easiness for programmers to integrate the 850 ?!

it really sounds no good.
Couldn't agree more. Serato needs to support the whole Pioneer range IMHO. Flexibility is required when you need to work in different enviroments, and timecode cds are quite legacy stuff ;)

That's a shame. I was looking at the 350's for a smaller set-up and it seems like they won't be supported either.
I think that the relationship between Pioneer and Serato might be changing.

I agree. That's a shame.
I have two 350s at home and hoping that Serato will support those in near future. It seems though that this might never happen.
I guess this is an opportunity for Traktor to increase their market share. I'm assuming that if Serato won't support 350s and 850 then Traktor will. And I will at least try then Traktor out for sure.
Serato should think about this, maybe it is not such a bad idea after all to support all Pioneer new units...

We're certainly not ruling it out, just that there's a LOT of development time spent on this type of thing, it's certainly not as easy as porting some code over from the CDJ-400 or similar. Development time has to come from other parts of the Scratch Live project, so doing something like this might mean other things get delayed, or cut.
For now the simple thing is that we have 3 very good CDJs that are supported and they are each at a different price point for all budgets :D

it is disappointing to know that implementation is that difficult - I'd never have thought it was so hard. Thanks for pointing this out.

It's hard which is why it takes companies with the resources such as Pioneer and Serato a good chunk of time to do something to this level, rather than a couple of bedroom programmers :D
It would be a lovely world if it was easy though!

Hi there,
due to the digital controlling abilities (Loops, Cues, etc…) of CDJs I use Pioneer Decks to control SSL3. For me the 1210 are second choice.
At the Moment I have some CDJ 400 which work great. I want to buy CDJs with a "full size" Jogwheel and the new CDJ 850 would be my favorite choice. I don’t’ need the additional features of the higher models, like most of my Colleagues don't need either. In the German DJ Forums many Djs see the CDJ 850 as the ideal and best-value professional Hybrid of Midicontroller and DJ Player. Also for very professional DJs the CDJ 850 are a good coice for preparing their sets.
IN THE SALES LIST OF THE HUGEST MUSIC STORE OF EUROPE, www.thomann.de THE CDJ850 ARE THE MOST OFTEN SOLD DJ PLAYER!!!
I think supporting the whole Range of Pioneer Players would give a great USP for SSL, especially in you look at the mayor HID-Problems which Traktor Users expereince at the moment. Hopefully the update comes soon and i can use the new Hardware ;)
Cheers, George

Hi Dj George Dee.
One of the 'features' of the CDJ-900 that differentiates it from the 850 is the Native support for Scratch Live. Pioneer has spent a lot of money on developing a range of players at different price points. The entry level players have less features and cost less. The more expensive players will have more features, but as more features cost more money, these also cost more. It's a pay off with features/money so you will need to decide on what you are wanting and are willing to pay for.
It's an expensive thing to do to get this type of functionality, and we would love to offer this functionality. But at the end of the day we offer native support for low, mid and high price points with Pioneer products. Any more we'd have to take away development resources form other areas of the Scratch Live project.
I hope you understand.
Cheers.

Hi Matt-C,
We're all Ok with this but... CDJ 850 is HID and for a pair of players (CDJ 900 vs CDJ 850) there is a difference of more than 750 € !
So, we're all waiting for this support of CDJ 850, and i think that nobody (i'm talking about Serato DJ only) will buy these CDJ 900 just to have a native support...
It's not the fault of Serato... but to be clear...(for Serato Users) i don't see the utility of cdj 900.
CDJ 850 is the ideal player for Scratchlive and something like a HC 1000 to controll the soft.

Matt-C,
HID is natively supported by all Pio Players. That makes Clear that Pioneer, the worldwide leading Producer for DJ CD Decks, invites DJ Software Producers like RANE to make their Software compatible. In my eyes this has NOTHING to do with the Pioneer product policy because they already opened the Door by giving the Decks a USB plug. It's up to you now.
Recently you released a bridge Software which is quite innovative, but it can only be useful for some Producers and Remixers. Sure, great Testimonials. But the big mayority of professional DJs who BUY your Product (I mean for money!) just wants to mix their tracks with the best Software (which surely is SSL) AND the Equipment they find in their Club or buy for themselves. Most People and some Clubs buy CDJ 350, 400 or 850. They expect you make this work.
And by the way: If you look at the "Total System Costs":
DJM 800+ 2 CDJ 900 +SL3 = € 4100.- (€750.- for you )
DJM 800 + 2 CDJ 850 + SL3= € 3400.- (no usability difference and still € 750.- for you)
Maybe the second Setup possibility will make some People decide buying SSL???

That's what I've said before.
I have 2xCDJ 350's waiting for Serato native HID support. And I bet if Serato will provide that support to 350 & 850 they will gain many new users. On the other hand, if they don't that would be like a gift to Traktor. If Traktor gets a proper HID support out for those new Pioneer units, no new user will think to buy Serato. Why? Tomecode CD vs HID, what would you choose?!
If Traktor releases official support for the 350's, I'm sure I'll try it out at least.
I also agree on the Bridge part. No disrespect to those who use Bridge, but when we compare how many users use Bridge and how many users would use 350 & 850 HID, I think Pioneer numbers would be many times greater.

As I said, the development cost of this is quite large - and we have to take resources away from other parts of the development to do this. We've already got a wide range of native controllers. However, of course we would love to offer every single feature possible. It would be great to offer absolutely everything users wanted and requested :D
However we have to wait for enough customers wanting this. Until there is the 2000 and 900 and 400 are the offered native Pioneer CDJs. If you guys can wrangle enough support in the Feature Request area, then that would help your cause a lot :D

The problem is: The CDJ-400 has been discontinued...
I'm not (yet) a SL-user, I still use Traktor. However, I've been thinking about switching to SL for a long time... the latest reason for that ist the lack of support for CDJ-350 & CDJ-850 in Traktor - and now I have to read that serato doesn't want to support it, too! :(
It was my biggest hope that serato support it so that I can either switch to SL or NI is forced to also support it.
Now I don't know what to do. I don't want to buy a discontinued product (CDJ 400) which I also don't like (the jog is bad) and the CDJ-900/2000 are too expensive.

I didn't say we didn't want to support it :D
Just that we put a lot of time and energy into getting the other devices supported so far.
So as long as this is in high enough demand, over other users requests for other functionality, you may get your wish sooner :D
