Please turn off the cap locks.

Which version of Scratch Live are you using?

Which version of Video SL are you using?

Do you use an external HD?

Try encoding a few with Handbrake and use our preset. That is the best way to ensure prime encoding for use with Scratch Live. A link to that page is below.

Also how much hard drive space do you have left.

And are you DJ Gonzo or DJ Wyte?
DJ WyTE 9:54 AM - 12 March, 2010
I'm using current SL and current VSL. and a 2TB external. fixed the prob however my current issue now is converting my vob to mp4. those files seem to be freezing and not converting right and i do use handbrake but cant seem to get the right setting. i will check that link and try that setting, im sure i tried it before but ima check again.

thanks and this is DJ WyTE not gonzo i just never changed the damn name.

Thanks.

let us know how the second try goes.
DJ WyTE 12:49 AM - 14 March, 2010
Still having issues with quaity. that setting is ok but i am trying to keep my vids as high quality as i can seeing as i mix with large LCDs.

Looking to get the Smash Vidz quality..
DJ WyTE 2:42 AM - 14 March, 2010
WOW... I don't know what happened but video playback is freezing up again.......

what the hell...

again i am using a macbook with all requirements..........
SSL 1.9.1
VSL 1.1.1

my quality playback is at "high"
buffer is 200mb

i keep it high because switching to medium doesnt do anything different BELIEVE ME i tried both and the fact is when i started this thread i was having these issues and then i fixed it. All was perfect... NOW all of a sudden it went back!

And as for the buffer, i saw a thread where someone said switch it to 1GB but that didnt help, and neither did 2GB... i'm going nuts here whats going on??

And again i will state its all my videos which are direct from smashvidz and tested.

Help Please... Thanks

You need to be using 1.9.2, which I linked below. Your video SL version is good.
scratchlive.net

After doing that, try adjusting your buffer back to at least 1gb. I read your results but I think having the older version might have been the root cause.
DJ WyTE 4:52 AM - 17 March, 2010
First of all, Thanks to everyone for taking the time to help out.. It really is appreciated.

ok I did update to SSL 1.9.2

recently had a system restore so went back to 1.9.1 but anyways i did update and it did help.......BUT still hmm videos do not play as smooth as they should.

Let me note, i use mostly Smash VidZ so their quality is top BUT should be mix ready right? My converts i been doing also come close to their quality and setting used.

So yeah basically the good quality vids dont play as smooth as when i preview them outside of serato.

ALSO i did try adjusting the buffer to 1gb and still doesnt change at all..

When Double-ling or beat juggling, some videos freeze or dont respond right away as should.

OK here's the movie info batch on one of the videos i recently converted.. let me know if its wrong or ok..

So yeah Thanks again guys get back to me.
DJ WyTE 4:53 AM - 17 March, 2010
P.S I also deinterlace.... always been against it but yeah.... tell me if thats wrong..
VJ Justin Allen 1:15 PM - 17 March, 2010
You keyframe average should be between 15 and 25. To me having a keyframe as high as you do is going to cause issues.
Rane, Support
Chad S. 3:43 PM - 17 March, 2010
I always recommend to deinterlace on slow. Thats what I've done for all of my videos.

The key frames is way high too.

Did you use the preset?
DJ WyTE 5:30 PM - 17 March, 2010
see? i been interlacing on fast......

I actually made my own preset... i felt the FFMPEG codec was doing a better job.

how can i average between 15 and 25 keyframe?

Thanks
DJ WyTE 3:39 AM - 18 March, 2010
need a better preset for converting vob on handbrake...
DJ WyTE 5:16 AM - 18 March, 2010

you guys are right. my framing is tooooo big... i read all the other topics of the same situation but still need a better preset. Even that video-sl preset doesnt give that result. avg keyframes are still around 50
carter 5:37 AM - 18 March, 2010
I was using deinterlace too, but it's not always needed. Turn it off. Move the slider to Decomb instead and put it on default. Detelecine to default. Default will check to see which is needed if any.
To get your frame rates down, go to the advanced tab and change the x264 command line to keyint=20:min-keyint=10. SSL preset was originally set to 50 for keyint.
Bump your average bitrate up to about 2500-3500 too. FPS is Same as.
Once you have your settings set, save it as a preset for yourself and mark it as the default.
carter 5:43 AM - 18 March, 2010
Oh and for Smashvidz quality, apparently a lot of their videos are done with an IVTC method that takes them back to 23.98(24fps) film quality.
DJ WyTE 1:20 PM - 18 March, 2010
Thanks Carter!

I'm doing a conversion right now which changed preset.. I'll try out the video later today. Thanks and i will report back!

We think the preset is broke at the moment. We are rebuilding one.

awesome... thanks Chad keep us updated :)
DJ WyTE 9:43 PM - 19 March, 2010
@ Carter

bro that still didn't help. here's 2 versions i did. Setting 1 is what u told me to do.
Setting 2 is mine and mine actually played best but yeah im hoping Chad can hook it up with a proper preset that can be stickied for everyone to use to avoid this hassle.
Thanks again for your time, help and patience.

P.S. Frame rate is hmm... I'm sure the 20.22 on 1st is what made it play different lol

i use Same as source so idk how that turned to 20. same for 2nd.. i didnt change it, it chose to do 24fps
carter 11:41 PM - 19 March, 2010
Yeah, the frame rate on the first one is way off. It should be 23.98 (24), 24.99 (25), or 29.97 (30). You might get a random 14.97 or .98, but those are the biggies.

DJMark wrote an x264 code that works well.
min-keyint=20:keyint=20:ref=3:bframes=2:subq=9:trellis=2:b-adapt=2:
direct=auto:me=tesa:analyse=all:no-dct-decimate=1
You can give that a shot as well if you want. It's all being discussed
here->www.scratchlive.net
DJ WyTE 11:44 AM - 20 March, 2010
awesome thanks carter i'll test it out
DJ WyTE 7:03 AM - 24 March, 2010
This is wack... even trying that new preset setting DJMark was talking about.

Same source fps comes out to 24 and 26fps... i'm gonna try 29fps cuz yeah they look good but the difference in the frame rate is alot.. they still dont play right in scratch live.

also the encoding takes forever!!!! atleast 30min per video which is rediculous.

We are still trying to get the new handbrake preset to function proper. Its being difficult with us.

thanks again

Gonzo, email me at chads@rane.com. I can send you a MAC preset for 0.9.4 or I can send you the 0.9.3 and the preset for that if on a PC. It won't work on windows 7 though.
carter 4:22 PM - 25 March, 2010
I've been pming with him trying to get him setup on MPEG Streamclip. I think we're just about there.
