Hello Folks
I downloaded 1.8.2 the other day and i have a issue with bpm's.
When I load a track with an exisitng bpm it changes from, for example, 130 to 8650752. It will then stay as that.
I remember reading that this was a problem in 1.8.1 so i stuck with 1.8 where this issue does not arrise. I have looked though for the thread or similar but can't find any details on it - (i could just be using the wrong search terms though)
Is it something i have done and/or should i just revert back to 1.8?
Any help would be much appreaciated, thanks

This is an id3 tag issue.
Try this:
Try using iTunes to strip one of your files and convert the tag version to 2.3.
Note: This will delete any cues or loops you might have in your files. You might want to try this on one track first.
If you don't use iTunes than you'll want to go into the 'advanced' preferences of iTunes first and uncheck the 'copy files to iTunes music when adding to library' option.
Once you've done that than drag and drop all of your music into iTunes and follow the directions below.
1. Completely quit all programs.
2. Open iTunes.
3. Click on your 'music' to show all the songs in your library.
4. Select all (apple+a Mac) (ctrl+a PC) or select one song for testing purposes.
5. Click on the 'advanced' column.
6. Select 'convert id3 tags'.
7. Check the 'id3 tag version' and select 'none'.
8. Press 'ok'.
9. Click on the 'advanced' column.
10. Select 'convert id3 tags'.
11. Check the 'id3 tag version' and select '2.3'.
12. Press 'ok'.
Once your done with this procedure you can delete everything out of iTunes by highlighting everything (apple+a Mac or ctrl+a PC) and pressing the delete key.
Once your done stripping and converting the tag shut down iTunes and open SSL.
Now delete the whacked bpm from the bpm field and build the overview on the file(s) again by dragging/dropping the file onto the build overviews tab.
Make sure you have the proper range set for the type of file your bpming.
This should calculate the correct bpm and should now stick.
Hope that helps:)

Hello Zach
Yes the trouble files are aac, however when i try to do the above in iTunes the 'convert id3 tags' is greyed out and not selectable!
Any suggestions?
I am tempted to go back to the older version where i had no problems...
Any help would be much appreaciated, thanks

Try this:
1. Shut down SSL.
2. Open iTunes.
3. Delete the bpm from one of the problem files.
4. Shut down iTunes.
5. Open SSL.
6. Load that same file onto the virtual deck.
Does the track show a bpm value?
If not, try building the overview on the file using SSL's auto bpm function and see if it calculates the correct bpm.
Let us know your findings;)

No it shows no bpm.

it shows up the correct bpm until you load it onto the virtual deck and it goes back to the large number!
Hope that helps

Hm..
Try deleting the bpm once you load it onto the virtual deck and the large number is calculated.
Once done, close SSL, re-open it, load that particular file, and see if it still shows up.
If that doesn't work try rebuilding the databaseV2 file(s).
Rename the databaseV2 files from the 'Scratch LIVE' folder located in your 'Music' or 'My Music' folder on your internal drive, and in your _ScratchLIVE_ folder on your external drive (only if you have imported tracks off of an external).
To get to your _ScratchLIVE_ folder, open SSL, click the import tab, highlight your external drive, highlight the _ScratchLIVE_ folder, and press ctrl+r (PC) or apple+r (Mac).
This will open up a separate browser and show you the contents of the _ScratchLIVE_ folder on your external.
From here keep that browser window open, completely quit SSL, and then rename the databaseV2 file in the separate browser window to something like 'databaseV2_corrupt".
Open SSL.
Does the problem still exist?

Hi Zach
Yup, i am afraid the problem is still there!
If i load them in 1.8.0 the bpm returns to the correct value, and stays there.
If i then open the track in 1.8.2 it goes back to the large number.
Any ideas?
(thanks fo all the help so far, sorry to keep bother you too)

I had the same exact problem and I think I may have found a solution.
1. Find a track, in iTunes, that you are having the BPM issue (a file that has BPM changing from a realistic number to something outrageous like 843304).
2. Most likely they are all in AAC format. Right click (ctrl + click for mac) on the first track you ant to fix and select Create MP3 Version. This will create a duplicate file that is now MP3.
3. Right click (ctrl + click for mac) on the newly created MP3 version and select Get Info.
4. Click the Info tab at the top if it is not already selected.
5. Clear the BPM field to show nothing, not a 0, just blank.
6. Press OK.
7. Now, Right click (ctrl + click for mac) on that file again and select Convert ID3 Tags...
8. Check the box next to ID3 tag version: and select v2.3 from the dropdown.
9. Press OK.
10. Close iTunes.
11. Open SSL.
12. Find the new version of the file (it should have a blank space for BPM in SSL).
13. Now, build the overview on that file.
14. Once finished, try loading it to a deck or the offline player.

The above steps will definitely fix it as a last resort.
I can't think of anything else to do aside from downgrading SSL for now.

If you're still having issues with AAC file BPM info, please give the 1.8.3 beta version a try -->> www.scratchlive.net
