VCI300 not working properly with Dell 5150

My computer is a Dell 5150 Windows XP Pro Edition with 3.0ghz processor and 512mb ram. I know it needs at least 1024mb of ram but read on...
I load a track into the right deck and I scratch or backspin I get dropouts and the VCI300 stops controlling the software. It's worse when there's a song playing on the other deck. Even when I double up a track it eventually drops out. It seems to be a usb buffer problem because when it drops out, I can adjust the usb buffer size in the setup window then click apply, it starts to play again then drops.
I've tried it on a Compaq laptop Windows XP Home Editon with 1.6ghz processor and 512mb ram with no problems playing a song in one deck and scratching on the other.
I've reinstalled a different Windows XP Pro Edition on my Dell 5150 and it works a little better but still drops out after a few minutes. It doesn't matter if it's powered by the USB port or wall adapter. I'm going to try Windows XP Home Edition on my Dell and see how that goes. Please help! Any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

home edition would probably not make any difference, it only has networking stuff removed from pro AFAIK.
You should install more RAM.
what kind of processor do you have? if you only have 512MB of RAM it suggests you have a single core pentium 4 or athlon type machine?
those chips despite higher 'clock speeds' are actually no faster, or often much slower than more modern processors.

I have a 5150 as a backup network unit and I experienced the same issue with dropping and slow functionality. My 5150 has the same specks as mentioned about (P4 w/ 512 MB of ram). Now my rack mount PC I use for my actual gigs is also a P$but have a gig of RAM. No problems to date.... Considering this, I have two suggestions:
1.) Try to max out your ram if you have not already done so.
2.) Most importly, make sure your VCI is plugged into a 2.0 or faster USB port. Not all ports transfer data at the same rate. I have noticed considerable difference with funcationality when not connected to a 2.0 port.
