Cheap/Easy way to transport your 57

hersh20 12:31 AM - 15 August, 2008
hey guys all you need is an old lp case and the original foam from the 57 packaging. check out the pics, i put my phones, power strip, mic, the 57 power and usb wires as well as 4 serato records and needle case in there and everthing stays pretty tight, you cant see it but there is another piece of foam on the bottom of the case. (keep the business side of the mixer towards the records). just a thought

That’s some good ingenuity there! I have record cases that I don’t even use, a road ready case that takes up space, and a hundred dollar hole in my wallet.

wow man... not bad!

sadly I just bought a pelican 1500

hint hint... 1500 pelicans are only 103.00 at Brigadequartermaster (its an army store)
anf yes, thats with the 3 types of foam.

this will be my case till it gets here though!!!!
great thinking!

the pelican is the best case ever!
Joshua Carl 4:08 PM - 1 October, 2008
fyi, if you want to be a stickler, the pelican RANE case is the 1520.
its about an inch shorter in heightand less than an inch shorter in the other dimensions than the 1500.

Looking around Ive seen the 1500/1520 between $99-200

ya i agree the pelican cases are the best and protect your gear better then any other dj mixer cases
Joshua Carl 7:20 PM - 7 October, 2008
Well, I got my 1500 today, and it fits the 57 like a glove...I really cant see fitting my sony 900s in the 1520 anyways, its only just under an inch of added depth.

the pluck and pick system allows for a supersnug fit and will EASILY hold the power cord, usb, the cds and probably a pair of needles (but if you havent bought the SHURE NEEDLE CASE, then you must!!!!)

so, again... maybe an inch of space, and a rane sticker like people have been saying.
dj vmb 8:38 PM - 7 October, 2008
Bad thing about the 1500 is that it looks so good that it makes people want to jack it. It’s ok though, I got a stomp waiting for them. But whats up with the stickers rane? Any way of getting them threw you guys instead of me asking people for some threw this thread and getting it locked?

Also Joshua Carl, how do you fit all that in with your mixer? I can't imagine how your putting all that stuff in your case with your mixer...did you just pick out all the foam? Any pics?
amadora 9:05 PM - 7 October, 2008
Yes, pictures would be nice.

Ill post a picture tommorow...

the way the foam works, is theres a 1 inch border of foam, in the middle is the pick & pluck....arguably removing ALL the PIKnPluk would fit the mixer nicely...maybe 1/2 inch gape tops on the left and right rides of the mixer.

I left 1 strip down the sides, so you literally have to squeeze the mixer in, prevents shifting, or "pistoning" as they call it/

I decided to pluck the top foam as well, the mixer isnt going to move so removing the pluck foam on top seemed fine, believe me I shook that thing like I was an English Nanny.
that opens up about 2+ inches between the top of the mixer, and the 1inch thick foam boarder. plenty of space for that stuff...cds under the mixer of course.

I had a very simular case and it made it through a 18month deployment to Iraq, kept my laptop mint...I HIGHLY suggest a Pelican to protect your investment.

as far as swiping it....this thing is a bit of a beast, cant be too inconspicuous with this thing...and it has 2 hoops for locks....but it someone just ups and takes it...well, that can happen with anything....maybe a computer style wire lock? those cable with the locks on the end if your worried about that? get to your gig, and lock that SHIT DOWN!
Joshua Carl 9:34 PM - 8 October, 2008
ok as promised....

heres how I had it originally...with the foam above the mixer

here as you can see I took the PIK&PLUK foam out from above the mixer, about an 2 inches of head room.
the mixer does NOT shift in the case...I guess it might, if I flip it up on its side and start banging the hell out of it. even still theres still the foam there and the wires.

finally heres the case empty...you can see I left 1 ow of PIK&PLuk on the left which gives the mixer that snug feeling in there. otherwiae the walls of the foam would just sit flush with the mixer, not add support.

hope this helps anyone

Wow, that looks dope. Thanks for the pics, man. It is a great deal of help.
dj vmb 8:51 PM - 9 October, 2008
Thanks for the Picks and update. I have it just like that but on the top of the mixer i took out only enough foam for the metal knobs where i put the ground wire for the tables...but if you say it doesn't move even without any foam on the top. I'll give it a try!
