Look guys. Have you tried to buy a computer lately? If you have, you would see that you can't hardly buy computers that operate at 32 bit anymore. I can't say it any more clear...GET WITH THE PROGRAM = 64 BIT DRIVERS. You guys can stop writing checks too. We all use check cards now.

U can install an 32bits OS on on a 64bits cpu. But u still have a point tho.

I have a daytime business laptop that came with Vista X64, would be great to use that without dual boot taking up hd space, extra partitions etc.

Same for FLAC, i switched from mp3 to losless a few weeks ago,
since SSL doesnt support FLAC i have to use WAV.

There are loads of quirks, comments from MIK arent recognized properly in WAV files so u have to do that all by hand, no support for album art to name a few, i love SSL but this is very time consuming and frustrating.

Those are limitations of the .wav file/format, not SSL.

My bad, but that doesnt change the fact i have to do it all by hand!

I'll try to remember it's WAV's fault the next time i have to spend valuable time on boring,
manually tagging what was done automaticly with mp3 files.

Can FLAC support things like id3 tagging and album art?

Thanks.

thanks for posting Hitman, we hear you, and 64 bit drivers are in the works. No details yet, but this is a priority.

Lu, the method scratch live uses for WAV tagging is the most logical and widely used (there is no real standard for this) - putting an ID3 tag inside a RIFF chunk. If MIK is not doing that, I would suggest you take that up with them? maybe it's an option.

Hi Josh,

Thanks for the reply.

I'll contact the MIK guy's about this, i still have to rerip over 1500 cd's so u can imagine it's like much work to do it manually.

Any chance we can get like an updated official statement about losless (flac) support. I know u guys normally don't comment about those things but the last statement is from more then a few years back.

I have like a feelin flac support would drop the day after i reripped and updated my whole collection manually.

Thanks,

Lu..

Understandable, but disappointing.

Disclaimer: This is coming from non-programmer.

The biggest hurdle with FLAC is its frame lengths. Notably, it does not contain frame lengths. Which was a big problem for ORB (the guys who made Winamp Remote, although it looks like they fixed it now forums.winamp.com ), their software recodes audio files and then streams them. Without frame lengths built-in to the FLAC format, the streaming failed, and the client-side result was disastrous.

Here is some fascinating info on FLAC straight from the FLAC sourceforge site.
flac.sourceforge.net

Josh,

Sure the technical hurdle exists, but I wonder if the decision not to put FLAC support into development is politically motivated. Everyone knows FLAC is now a very common format that release groups use to distribute high-quality pirated music. It would be very dissapointing to discover that was the primary reason for lack of development.

But if it's just the technical challenge of developing native support within ScratchLive... why not just make ScratchLive capable of using codecs just like every other music player out there? Winamp can't play FLAC by itself; neither can Quicktime (iTunes) or Windows Media Player.

Why should ScratchLive be any different? Is it a speed issue? (i.e. the ScratchLive engine has to be super freaking fast to decode on the fly without introducing latency)

Just some thoughts.

Keep the suggestions coming though guys, we read them all :)

Never mind the above. I'll just have to be patient. And I forgot to *think* just because it's not in development doesn't mean it isn't on the radar.

*sigh*

I want FLAC so bad. :(
