Scratch LIVE Feature Suggestions
What features would you like to see in Scratch LIVE?
New Denon controller native support wanted
Denon DN-HS5500 (The LCD is open for midi)
Denon DN-S1200
Please improve:
Denon DN-HC4500 native support with better VFD data feedback and features that are requested already by SSL users.
Compared to Reflex and VDJ 5.1, the Denon DN-HC4500 is better integrated natively with Reflex and VDJ 5.1. The jpboggis mapper would be something to compete with.
Denon DN-S1200

Can the 5500 be controlling serato via timecode and the other buttons be midi mapped? I am considering geting these to replace my 1200;s and cdj800's but not sure if its the right choice

No, it's either midi mode or timecode, You cant have the deck in midi mode and also expect the buttons to be able to be programmed, it would get confused, If you use the timecode on a flash drive, it works great and until native support comes out, there is no need to midi map yet. Midi mapping does work great too but you lose the spinning platter because serato has not mapped it yet.

So brichi, you prefer these over the cdj-800's? Im thinking of going to "abra" as we long islanders remeber it to pick one up.

ahhhh, the good ol abracadabra, lol.
I definitely prefer these over the 800's, I feel I have more control and more "vinyl" like feel with the spinning platter. Plus there are a lot more features on it like midi, instant hot starts, effects (if you play songs off a drive, not serato), the display is really nice, it is a 2 in one player so you always can have a song loaded on the sendond deck as a "just in case", and it just feels better built and more solid, the 800's always felt like plastic to me.
The 5500 just offers so much more than even the cdj1000 and it is $400'ish cheaper than the 1000

+1 on the 5500 and 1200 support.... doing the timecode-on-flash-drive thing right now, but would love to do MIDI with the 5500 and SSL. Got a taste of what its like with the native support in Reflex, but its unstable as hell and I won't give up my SSL which has never crashed or dropped out on me.

I tried mapping the Denon HS5500 with Serato using MIDI mode, and it works very well, but It's not the same as having native support and using its spinning platter to scratch. Serato has native support for all the awesome lineup of controllers that Denon has come out with, like: the 4500, 2500, and I think the S1200, but they're taking forever on the 5500. Reflex has already beat Serato to the punch and offers native support. I think Traktor might be close behind on native support. I want to keep my Rane gear, and SSL setup, so hopefuly we get this soon.

Please inform us as to when SSL will have native support for the denon 5500.
Please make it such that we can utilize (2) seperate players and not be relegated to using one player and it's 2 layers ( i.e. virtualdj v.5.2.(?))
I would love to be able to use all of the effects accessible on the controllers and have detailed information on the proper settings of the controller as it relates to your software.

Throwing my 2 pence worth into this thread, I'd like to see more support for the Denon DN-HC4500.
Pitch range is fixed at +/-8% (been told it's fixed and there's no option for changing the range. Would be great if you could choose say +/-4%, 8% and 16%
Brake and effects facilities are not supported.
Would love them to be included in Serato - make my life soooo much easier! :)

I heard it was coming in 1.8.3, but I don't know when.
Suggestions for the 5500:
Cue Points
• Function Keys 1-3 should be used for the Cue Points. Display Mode button should be used for Cue Point #4. And the Next File button should be used for Cue Point #5.
• 1 button (Function Key) to create a Cue Point (1 BUTTON = EASY) Not 3 steps www.scratchlive.net
• Flip + Function Key to Delete a Cue Point
• We need an option to keep playing when we hit a Cue Point from Pause Mode. Currently, when the music is paused, triggering a Cue Point plays, but once you let go of the button, the music stops (also called Stutter). I know you can hit Play while holding down the Function Key to keep playing, but it adds another unnecessary step. On all Denon players, you can disable/enable this by hitting the FLIP button.
Assignable MIDI
• Besides the buttons with backlights (Cue, Play, A1, A2, Platter Source, Tap, Playlist, Dump & Reverse), all buttons should be user assignable in MIDI. (For instance, I will always have the Key Lock (Key Adj.) option ON in Serato, so I will never use the Pitch/Key/Range button. Assigning it to the Sensor button would make a lot of sense.) I also want to be able to control the Auto Loops, Trancifier, and the new Loop Roll.
Loops
• We need an option to choose loop 1/2,1,2,4,8,16 regardless of which position is on the screen. Where is the 1 button to divide a loop by 2 and another button to multiply the loop by 2.
• We need a way to scroll through the loops. Flip + Exit to enable the current loop is nice on the HC4500, but we still need a way to use more than just 2 loops from the controller. This is where loops tied to Hot Starts is nice like in Serato ITCH. www.scratchlive.net
• Imagine pushing down on the effects knob (wet/dry) to create an 8 bar auto loop, rotate it counter clockwise to divide the loop by 2 or rotate it clockwise to multiply the loop by 2. You would have complete control to create your own Trancifier effect!!!
Subcrates
• We need a way to open and close the subcrates.
Pitch
• ±10% pitch resolution is a must. Give the user the option to select a pitch resolution. (We know it's going to be less accurate as the pitch increases because of the resolution of the hardware controller)

no, nothing yet, Still waiting for the serato mods to let us know when it will be available. The denon is equipped with the capability, the software "reflex" already had full native control including platter control, Serato is a little behind on this one. It's usually because they like to make sure it is perfect, they really never release something like a native midi update unless it is rock solid. Lets hope soon

Not having Jorgen updating the code in Reflex, I think, is a bad idea. I was hoping for a Mac OS X version of Reflex Full with virtual skins and midi. Oh well, atleast SSL 1.8.3 is out. Guess I can wait and wish t0 skip to SSL 1.9 and see if more native support gets added to SSL for the Denon controllers. :-P
