sorry if this has been posted here before. I did the search and it came with zero results.
So I just got my SSL last weekend and I was reading through the manual. I found a small paragraph saying that when in internal mode you can use your serato without the hardware. Is this possible? I downloaded 2.0 and when SL 1 is not connected I only see offline player. Do I have to connect SL1 first? Since internal mode has tempo slider could I mix without my controller CD/vinyl?
Thanks

The hardware in terms of the SSL soundcard is still needed. What they mean is no turntables/CD players are required for Internal mode, as you do everything with the mouse and keyboard, or now with 1.8, MIDI controllers.

so when I full around at home I could just take my laptop and connect SL1

Well, you still need a mixer to plug the outputs of the SSL soundcard into to be able to hear anything.

There's also the offline player in 1.8, which doesn't require you to connect the SSL soundcard. You can listen to songs, set cue points and loops, organize tracks, etc, without the SSL soundcard connected. The sound plays out your laptop's internal speakers. However, this is a "crippled" mode, you only get 1 deck, so you can't "mix" anything, and there's no pitch control. It's basically like a standard media player with a few SSL functions.

yes I used it already and it is pretty good. Now another questions. When I hooked everything, define my cue point, start playing my CD would not go beck to time zero. It will just get stuck wherever I stop the play. It will go forward when manipulating the track but it wont go backwards. So if I am trying to rewind beck to my cue point it just wont do it. What am I doing wrong?

and my bad, I am using 1.8 version

Make sure the audio input level setting, within the SSL setup hardware tab, is set to LINE and not phono.

Use ABS for the virtual deck playback mode.

thanks I will try that.
Now to be able to play regular CD I have to hook my THRO outputs to my mixer line inputs but I already use those for Imput's 1 and 2 for my CD1 and CD2

If you use CD players with SSL and still want to play normal CDs in addition, yes, you need to hook the THRU outputs also into line inputs on the mixer. So, unfortunately yes, you need a mixer with at least 4 separate line inputs to play both SSL and normal CDs. If your mixer only has 2 phono 2 line inputs, then you're SOL and won't be able to play normal CDs, at least not without unhooking everything everytime you want to play a normal CD.

I suppose then, what mixer do you have (brand/model)?

I am using pair of DNS300 with VMX300
3PO 7:15 AM - 23 April, 2008
DNS3000
Konix 12:27 PM - 23 April, 2008
Alright, on the back of the VMX300, you have 3 line and 3 phono/line switchable inputs, giving you a possible total of 6 line inputs. So you have more than enough inputs to play both SSL and normal CDs. There are little tab push buttons on the back of the mixer in to make them line inputs instead of phono (see, cachepe.zzounds.com).

OK I am beck wit same problem...
So I am using VMX300 that has phono/line input that you can switch with the button on the beck of the mixer. Connecting my DNS3000 directly into phono/line work with no problem. However when connecting it through THRU output on SL1 audio becomes all distorted and muffled :o(

Sounds like the THRU outputs are connected to PHONO level inputs. Check the back of your mixer and make sure the line/phono attenuation switch is set to LINE :)

the switch is in right position. I tested with directly plugging denons and as I sad it works fine but when going through SL 1 it sounds distorted...

Do the LED meter lights within SSL peak out in the red?

Wouldn't it be possible to hookup the setup something like an A/B switch for an Antenna/Cable or Cable/Console setup instead?

Not sure if a device like this exists for RCA cables, but I'm thinking you could hook the CDJ output up to a device that first splits the signal: one way into the SSL box and another end that merges again with the SSL line output and have a switch somewhere between the original CDJ output and the merge at the mixer side so that you can control whether the CDJ output will run directly to the line-in on the mixer or instead run through the SL-1 box and out to the mixer.

It's a little late, I'm sleepy, and not really too sure if that made any sense but was an idea that I was thinking about that could be useful.

ok that is where whole confusion is. You guys should specified that Serato should be on (software and hardware) even when you are using just your audio CD's.

Now that everything is plugged and turned on it is working. But if I am not using my laptop and just want to play regular CD's I will have to rewire everything.

thnx

RTFM... The software do not need to run, but the SL1 box need power to carry the signal.

You can buy an external power supply for your SL1 box, if you want to leave it connected to the mixer without a computer. www.google.com

The specs for an external power supply can be found on the bottom of the SL1, if needed :)
