Do you like to dj high?

I know I do......

I'm 6'3" and I destroy my back if I set up on a normal table.(usually 30", I like to play up at 34-36")

2 things I do to get my gear up to a height I like to play at.

1 - I use the lids from the turntable cases and put them under the decks and then balance the mixer in between. this raises up everything up to a comfortable height.
When I was using my cdj000's I would just set the decks on top of the cases.

2 - using the cases to raise stuff doesn't always look that good (wedding or formal setup) so I cut 1.5" PVC pipe to approx 15" pieces (4 of these) then slide each one under the leg of a folding table, adjust the skirt and now your table is at a height that you can set your stuff on and play without killing your back.

So have fun and remember when you dj high it makes the night go much better.

Oh.

Yeah, at one place the set up is high and it's much more comfortable. Where I am tonight the laptop is a bit low, I feel hunched up when I have to type on it.

Think how much we can make in medical claims when our backs pack in. *rings lawyer*

I Stick out like a soar thumb,

I am 6ft5in and DJ 4 feet off the dance floor in the DJ booth. The funny thing is the other DJ at the Club is 5ft 4in and you can't even see her in the booth when DJing. When I spin after her I have to put crates and lift everything in the booth, CD's, Turntables, laptop, Records and all with crates. It takes for ever to set up and if I am headlining its even worse setting up in the middle of the night.

ha, i used to do the lounge in a club and played from a sofa - i miss that.

it wasn't laziness, it was laid back music that wouldn't have suited show-y DJing, this was more in keeping with the vibe :)

I'm 6'3" and I use the Grundorf adjustable table. It definitely helps getting the tables to the right height and it only weighs 20 lbs. At home I have the tables on an old wooden kitchen table that is pretty solid. Also have a DJ Mat that saves my back after 4 hours of djing.

Serious, on them it was a bit high but I looked like Gary Coleman tha beat selecta. With the help of my tippy-shell-toes and some choice cuts, the strange short guy won the battle. I like to have my arms at 90 degree angle to the rest of my body when touching the turntables. Most places I have played at have a table/desk that is too low. I just put the travel cases under the decks and the mixer fits in between them. Also taking my shoes off when playing for an extended period is a lot more comfortable. And stretching periodically, these things seem to do the trick as far as sore backs go.

DJ'ing when real high has never worked out very well for me, a little bit though and it helps a lot. I seem to be able to hear all the different elements in the music better, and scratchng while high is by far better.

Peace

I asked the owners of the club where I DJ for a mixing "desk".. and indeed, it puts the mixer right at bellybutton height. plus its angled (please don't ask the angle.. I have no clue) so the back of the decks is higher than the front. It works out very well. Just a simple plywood shell with angled top that our handyman maint guy put together. Next request will be for an addition to it for the laptop :)
