Konix's SSL video tutorials

Hi all, I am in the process of making several video tutorials and how tos with ScratchLIVE, and also "help" videos to some of the most "common" SSL problems (i.e. "noob" RTFM problems) to save me the time of having to repeat the same thing over and over every week in the Help forum.

The first one I have done is instant doubles. After reading this and several other forums, I've found many people don't know how to use 1 turntable with SSL or the instant doubles feature, or let alone even know it exists or what it does. So, here it is broken down...

How TO - Instant Doubles

Sorry for the shaky camera, I had to hold it in one hand while I did everything with the other hand. I will getting a tripod stand soon.

Hope you find this helpful and expect many more videos in the coming weeks.

nice work on the videos dude.. 2 questions tho.. :

1) i'm using a PC now.. with all my music and crates on the internal drive.. I would like to switch the music to an external drive, AND switch serato/crates to my new computer.. wich is a MAC.. does this work the same way as you explained? or are the files not compatible from PC to MAC?

2) What is that external drive would be an IPOD? I have a 160 gig iPOD and I would actually like to store all my songs on that.. since it's handy because it's a small harddrive, looks stylisch, and can also be used for personal use.. how would that work?

Thanks so much if you can answer my questions properly or maybe even show it in a vid :-)

Very much appreciated and good job on the vids!

It'll be fine, crate files and the database file isn't going to be more than a few MBs at most.

Well, you're going to have problems if you want to use an external drive and plug it into someone else's computer. You can't really use iTunes playlists for this, you will have, rather need, to use SSL crates. You will need to make a crate for every playlist, then go into each playlist, highlight all the files (Ctrl+A or Apple+A on Macs), then drag the highlighted group from the playlist to the crate. Repeat for every other playlist.

SSL crates are stored on the external drive itself, so you can plug it into any computer and all the crates will show. You can't really do this with iTunes/playlists. You could, but you would have to mess with and change the other person's iTunes settings, which I'm sure they wouldn't want you doing. Or what if they don't have iTunes installed at all? Then you're really SOL.

So, you have to use SSL crates.

konix what would be auto loop for windows I try alt-t or g but it doesn't work ?

The regular auto loops (1/2, 1, 4, 8, etc) are Alt+1-5 for the left deck, Alt+6-0 for the right deck. Alt+T and Alt+G are only for that secret trancifier stutter loop. In either case though, the song has to have a tagged BPM value to work. So make sure you are building overviews to get the BPM of your songs.

Knoix thankyou for the quick respose! After I posted this question to you I sat in front of my computer for 3 hours trying to figure this out(Itune play list transfer to another computer issue). I came up with is solution, maybe you can pass this on to someone that might have a similar question in the future. Before i started I moved all my music like you showed in your vid to an external.
1) I saved my Itunes play list in text format (itunes > click on playlist that you want to back up > file > export)I this this for all my Itunes playlist!

2)I saved this playlist(text format) to my external(made a new folder named Itunes backup playlist) so this way where ever i go i have my i tunes playlist.

3)I arrived at the club witch has a computer(mac) in the booth for all djs.
I created a new user so i could have a clean Itunes.I changed the folder witch iTunes reads music from to my external.

4)I loaded my playlist to the clean Itunes! Itunes> file> load> look for the folder that i backed up my playlist and clicked on a playlist > hit ok.You will now see that playlist on Itunes.I did this for all my playlist.

5)I just go tho the club, log into that user account that i crated and plug the external, and i got it!

Thanx for helping out.

I went bact to tiger for 2 reasons.
1. Boot time. Leopards boot time is twice as long. (not a big deal to me though)
2. Air Port signal. It tremendously decreased on Leopard. (This is my main reason for staying with tiger)

That power down, on the video, was tight but... try a back spin! I've been using that trick and it works well with electro and above BPM!!!

Konix, do you use MixedInKey for your songs? Or do you determine the keynote of each song manually and convert it into the Camelot system?

Konix I got my apple now. Can you post a video or show me a link to the video about syncronizing hard drive with serato to mirror folders and subfolders and if possible how to create a batch file for macs. I think you remember my issues with my dell laptop. Thanx already.

then i go to do a gig but i'm using a totally different mpc 1000
will it work?
