it would be really easy to add a couple of knobs to the SL1 and have it soft configurable from within serato..
just some basic filter, phase or flange effects?

WHY the hell would you want buttons on the sl-1 or sl-3 the damn thing is chucked behind the mixer or behind the laptop. Tape a midi controller ERM WHY would you do that when you would nicly place it near the mixer???
Why don't you go to a dj equipment store and test out some different midi controllers and see which meets you needs the best?

save buying a seprate controller?
why would you "chuck" the sl1 behind the mixer?
you just said chucked behind the mixer, wtf?
at least we can make a hybrid singular device by taping them together, that was the point..cant stand all these damn cables and leads, one day someone will make a laptop with all this gear on board..
because forums are for discussion?
if you don't want to be helpful, fine, but kindly keep your negative comments to yourself, thx.

Because the audio signals is coming out of the box. Why would I want to hammer the box?
Use a dedicated Midi controller.

Okay, so then why would you want to have Rane encouraging people (by adding control-buttons) to put the SL-1 (with its various cables connected into opposite sides) out in front of their setup? Seems like kind of a logistic nightmare to me. How could that even work?
You want the SL-1 in a secure out-of-the-way place so that the cables are least likely to get dislodged while DJ-ing.
Plus, Rane actually did address this issue back in 2006: they added the buttons and built the SSL interface into a mixer. If you really want a simpler, cleaner, less-cables setup with some built-in controls, that's the way to go.

the leads are long enough to make the box accesible.
if not you could always buy longer ones..
integrated hardware is less hassle than seperate boxes.
the knobs could easily be externally removable/replaceable just like cross faders.
can you recommend any?!

i've noticed some horrendously over spec'd "controllers" coming out, they look ridiculous!
as such, i think this would be a good idea..
it really wouldn't be hard to put two extra knobs on the sl1/sl3 and as mentioned, they could easily be made externally removable, without opening the box, just like cross faders on mixers..
no problemo!
i like things nice and simple!

no they weren't positive sry!
it would not be "shocking" to put two knobs on an external sound card that's silly language..you don't have to buy it anyway..but i think you are just being silly..maybe you don;t quite understand what i'm suggesting..
i'm happy with scratch, i just would like a teeny bit more control..hence this thread!

yeah, well the thing about forums and communities is that you network with people and ask for their experiences?
i'd rather get advice from someone who knew about what they were talking about, than wading thru endless pages of google?
here, try your own advice!: www.lmgtfy.com

out 2 DJ P Dot, this lpd 8 looks like an 80's drum machine lol!

reminds me of my old sequential circuits studio 440, anyone remember them!? (you lot were probably still at school then! :P)
here check it out: www.vintagesynth.com
no but seriously, looks good, i like simple..
the nano control looks good, but i don't really need faders..just knobs and maybe some buttons..
the kontrol x1 looks good, it will work with serato?
the denon looks unnecessarily fussy for what i want..
lpd 8 is fave m8, nice 1 ;)
