Serato Software Feature Suggestions

What features would you like to see in Serato software?

FlossyFX Fx with serato

Curtified 12:02 AM - 23 November, 2006
Hey everyone. I made a little lite fx program to run behind my serato interface. I have been testing out this flossyfx program live for the past month or so. It seems to do the trick that I wanted it to give it a download and tell me what you think.

The way it works:
The app is made to provide sound fx to your live performance with out the purchase of a sampler. I provided both PC and MAC versions. It uses your existing sound card so you will need to get an RCA to 1/8th inch adaptor to plug into a spare channel, or a 1/8th inch to 1/4 inch to plug into your mixers mic channel (depending on your setup).

I have the program running in the bottom left hand corner of my screen with my serato sized up a little. This makes it easier for me to access the sounds while I'm "in the mix". I provided some screen shots to show you what I mean.

Let me know what you think I need all the feed back I can get.

Looks cool dude. Once I get Serato (only a couple of days before my paycheck arrives and my Serato will arrive soon after that). I'll check your app out for sure.
digital_steve 1:40 AM - 23 November, 2006
Is it an FX program (delays, reverbs etc) or a little sampler section for fx samples?
nik39 10:43 AM - 23 November, 2006
Very cool.

The "FX" part of the software name is a bit misleading - I expected some flangers, echo's, delays etc. ;)
Curtified 11:33 AM - 23 November, 2006
sorry about the title of the program.. Its just a sound sampler to add drops to your mix.. Im working on a version now that alows the user to load their own sounds in.
digital_steve 11:09 PM - 23 November, 2006
Yeah... I was expecting all the usual multi-fx as well.

Nice work tho ;)
DJ FLATLINE 8:46 AM - 24 November, 2006
very nice man!!!!!!!!mad props for this
:D
DJ FLATLINE 9:42 AM - 24 November, 2006
maybe when you're able to, you can add an info bar for each sample so you can remember what is where or maybe a scroll over info tab....

Again, big props out to you Curtified!!!! The bomb drop sample (C)is louder than the rest of the samples just to let you know.
NotoriousM.I.T. 2:59 AM - 25 November, 2006
veryyyy nice

cant wait to try it out
Techtwelve 6:40 AM - 27 November, 2006
Wicked Man !!

Listen if you could, place your own samples in the key banks, that would be hot.

Repect on the program.
Curtified 8:05 AM - 27 November, 2006

Future Features:
- Sample Drag and drop
- Mastered Default sounds
- Switch to make samples fully play or just trigger

www.zshare.net

Im still open to any sugestions.
DJ FLATLINE 9:33 AM - 27 November, 2006
thanks again...i can't figure out how to use the caps lock feature
DJ FLATLINE 9:40 AM - 27 November, 2006
forget it.....I understand it now!!! I thought you could have serato open and it would still be able to drop samples.....It's too late at night......lol
DJ PREZ 7:10 PM - 27 November, 2006
Wow ... I got to give you mad props on your software Curtified... I'm sure it's gonna change the way dj's sound on their gigs... bro when are you going to release the new version with the drag and drop sample ? and also how long can the samples be ?

it would be amazing if this was built into serato .being able to drag and drop samples in to it would be good too.

Show support for the program, keep using it and give the programmer feedb ack and if enough people use it, maybe the SSL team will chat with the guy for incorporating it.

Seems like a program that you scratchy, hip hop heads would use a lot! ;)
R Capone 8:31 AM - 11 December, 2006
Here's another that I did today, I feel this one is better as it allows you more room with serato. If you notice on the right hand side I have a gain meter. It's my intention to have that fully functional so that you can contrl the output from the program rather than your laptop.

i22.photobucket.com

If people want I would possibly consider creating one with some basic/custom effects. All I would need are the sounds.

I haven't tried it with Serato but I gave it a good testing on my laptop with task manager open. I tried my best to overload the cpu process by rapidly and continuously clicking effects. The most I was able to generate was about 20% usage. This would NEVER occur during a playout as you wouldn't be clicking teh buttons in rapid succession as I did (3-4 times/second).
DJ Cypher 5:10 AM - 15 December, 2006
Big up to curtified for the sampler... it definately saves time instead of loading my drop and then loading the next track!!
meta 9:28 PM - 16 December, 2006
error 25235 when unpacking
error opening file
crc error

Though I can open the application in flash player but not dropping my own samples on the buttons.

thanks for offering that thing, thats exactly what I was looking for
meta 10:14 AM - 21 December, 2006
hi, anybody an idea why this don´t work here? its really important. i can´t afford a sp404 at the moment ;)
djkevinz 10:41 PM - 24 December, 2006
The program looks killer.. so how are you proposing the 'feature add' to serato? that they would incorporate this as a whole? Seems like a big departure from the current structure of the program, using a sampler and the line-out from the computer. Not that they couldn't but that would set a precedent for the program really exploding with features that not everyone needs.

How about a serato API that made the current BPM within serato (and maybe other info) available to third party programs/plug-ins like this? Then many little helper apps could be developed for each niche need. Like the lyrics support (a different post) - probably not best built in to serato (because hip-hop heads like you wouldn't use it :-) ) but the current song title could feed a 3rd party lyrics database program.
concorde_pilot 12:17 AM - 26 December, 2006
nice thing, i was always looking for such a programm!!!!
but:
1. the triggering of the samples it not really on point - when you press the a-button (for example) it takes a bit (not much but noticeable) until you ca hear the sound >>> this needs improvement
2. the triggering should be "one shot" >>> when you press "a" (for example) twice you will hear two air raids at the same time! when pressing the same button again before the sound hast ended it should start again from the beginning >>> not additional, not the same sound twice (at the same time)...
3. such a sampler should be implemented in ssl because this would be much better than having it running as another stand-alone programm because i like to have ssl in full-screen mode (when i minimize ssl i´ll always get usb-dropouts)

SERATO TEAM: ADD SUCH A SAMPLER PLEASE... ;)
dj_juice 5:41 AM - 1 January, 2007
for those who minimize serato and have dropouts.... try holding down "Alt" and press "Tab"... this will change the active window, even if your in full screen... simply repeat to get back to serato...
concorde_pilot 3:50 PM - 3 January, 2007
thx... seems to work much better this way.
but i would still prefer it if the flossyfx would have the "always in foreground"-option like the windows "monitor-keyboard" (this tool in windows which gives you the oportunity to click at the keys instead of pressing them on the real keyboard) for example has until serato adds such a sampler to ssl...
Killbill 7:37 PM - 18 January, 2007
First off, WONDERFUL program. It's genius.
Is there anyway to change the sounds, maybe add our own or levelise the volumes, cause some r higher than others.
prizo 7:20 PM - 21 January, 2007
great concept, keep it up!

great program! even if its not drag and drop, does anyone know how to change some of the internal sounds permanently? i could put my own horn that i like, plus my main drop in there and leavem.
Killbill 3:43 PM - 24 February, 2007
Why r people ignoring this super hot program? It would be very nice if we could add our own effects plus it it was one with the ssl GUI.
vio0633 8:53 PM - 24 February, 2007
This is the shit!! Im going to be using this tonight at the club. Anyway you can make it so we can customize it were I can load a voice drop for radio use on this? Love the air horn and air raid samples!! Thank you for the hookup!

Technically macromedia flash player is an ActiveX component, developed for web and Internet users to view graphical vector-based animations with music or videos etc. Whatever samples, drops, sweepers, liners, ids you have it must first be converted to a swf file (sound wave) file. There are several programs to convert any mp3/wav file to (swf) just google it. My problem is to determine what program Curtified is using to pre-loaded all samples to which keyboard key. Yo Curtified is it X Director or Studio 8? Well anybody that knows how to webdesign should be able to do this in a flash. Or maybe Curtified can post instructions on how to pre-load your own samples. I will post my results if I can get this done with my own drops and instructions how to do this. BIG UPS Curtified for FLOSSYFX

PEACE!
dj cubicle 2:40 AM - 16 March, 2007
LOL I just realized I could hook my sound out on my laptop to the Effect RCV on my Vestax05. I've been sitting here trying to figure out how I was going to get this thing integrated with only 2 channels. LOVIN IT!
Killbill 3:36 PM - 17 April, 2007
For those of you who love this program but are angry @ the fact that you can't add your own samples, no one's responding to our pleas to make it better & one of the samples is freaking loud, here's a solution.
If you own virtual dj, you can use its sampler the same way your using flossy fx. Advantage is you have 12 slots for samples, you can add your own & you can assign them to any keys you want. Just hook your headphone out to an input on your mixer. If you don't have virtual dj, try the demo then buy it. It's a very hot program(of course i'm entitled to my opinion)
asapflowSSL 1:03 PM - 23 April, 2007
well its 2007 im guessing there should be some type of upgrade by now...im check it out see whats up hope it works with a vestax 06pro slim..
asapflowSSL 3:34 PM - 23 April, 2007
..NOT a bad program.. incase CURTIFIED doesnt plan on returning and adding new features.....GOOD LOOKS ive been looking for a few effects..
bumpsdick 11:31 AM - 11 May, 2007
I saw somebody mention on the low-bee forum that this thing is getting an upgrade soon... we'll see

and big up to curtified for this. I'm a big fan of the sampler and all that flosstradamus does.
djivanlopez.com 12:05 AM - 12 May, 2007
any hints or tips needed for this program?
dj Gds 2:47 PM - 20 May, 2007
great program in complement with SSL

BUT BUT BUT is it possible to change the sound on each buttons,

I mean: put our own sounds depending on the style that we play...
Ur "effects" are great but not for all ;-)

Nice! Had me at 'Thanks Wes'.

Seriously though this is just what I've been searching for.

Bye bye to bringing sampler. Built in sounds are awesome. Only thing is how I kinda miss being able to tweak FX with effects.
defjamblaster 3:08 AM - 22 May, 2007
i looked at virtual dj; it looks kinda extensive for just wanting to trigger samples. is there anything that only triggers samples, in the same vein as flossy?
Killbill 9:49 PM - 6 June, 2007
Nope, that's why I use virtualdj.

djbigz, you need a Ground Loop Isolator from RadioShack. It only costs about $15. It should come with a earphone (from laptop) to RCA (into your mixer) adapter.

the new beta version always stays on top..
you can just drag & drop your samples from ssl into the letter you want for that sample..
to activate flossy you need to click the floosy box before using flossy fx..to use ssl you have to click back to the ssl vindow..vise versa
