Serato DJ Pro General Discussion

Talk about Serato DJ Pro, expansion packs and supported hardware

The great Itch Light and soundshow topic!

Kmxorbit 6:30 PM - 20 March, 2010
Hi all,
Something totally different.
I'm wondering what the mobile DJ's amongst us, use as their partysetup.
I wanna see video's!

So here's my contribution: this is my smallest setup for private parties. I don't use my own stuff very often, and I always forget to take pictures. But this time I remembered I have a camera on my iphone.
So, presenting my own lightequipment that i bought last year. It's all laser end LED technology, so it runs on 1 powerplug...
Ofcourse, the sounds are comming from our beloved Ns7 with Itch 1.5 on a MBpro!

Watchwww.youtube.com

Now show me your setup with Itch! I want to see it live on video!
iiexist 7:37 PM - 20 March, 2010
cool lights..
this should be in general discussion IMO.

its amazing how many threads in the itch forum are WAY off topic...
I1Kirm 7:59 PM - 20 March, 2010
It is in the General Discussion...
KLH 8:08 PM - 20 March, 2010
This is in the right place, iiexist. Nice lights, Kmxorbit. I've got a similar setup - just without the lights. I've got a small gig tonight, so I'll try to post some vid too.

Kmxorbit 8:13 PM - 20 March, 2010
Yeah, please do KLH. Looking forward to see your setup.
I hope everyone with Itch can post their setup on video ;-)
elsupermang 9:53 PM - 20 March, 2010
Thats a pretty awesome setup. Must be a bitch to setup though. You should add the lil bubbles that details what each light is. Can you list what you have? I'm looking to purchase some laser lights. And when you say it runs off one power plug do you just mean one power strip/outlet? I know you can daisy chain but i thought you couldnt do different light fixtures.
elsupermang 10:11 PM - 20 March, 2010
oH i just saw the equipment list on the youtube description ;-)
Kmxorbit 10:17 PM - 20 March, 2010
I daisy chain the whole setup and is controllable via 1 single unit. Only the first time your setup is not that easy, but once set after all you build this lightshow in less then 1 hour, and the whole thing fits into a station car...
elsupermang 10:37 PM - 20 March, 2010
Hmmm do you live in the U.S? Those lasers are class III and supposedly can cause harm to the eyes. What kind of safety measures do you have to take?
iiexist 1:11 AM - 21 March, 2010
i actually meant the GENERAL DJING DISCUSSION forum.. or even the OFF TOPIC FORUM.

i didnt see what a light setup had to do with ITCH...

Well technically the setup is with ITCH and a NS7, but i get your point. I love how the people in the video are just dancing crazy.

Kmxorbit's video is clearly showcasing the lights. which are nice, but off topic. which was my initial point to begin with. this thread has nothing to do with itch, serato, ns7, vci300, etc. this isnt a lights forum. plain and simple.
I1Kirm 10:45 AM - 21 March, 2010
Maybe I speak only for myself here but I don't like visiting forum sections outside of ITCH. In fact I only follow the ITCH General Discussion, VCI-300 help and the beta sections (whenever there is a beta). I like how fellow ITCH users post in ITCH General Discussion even if their subject is not related to ITCH directly. To me "ITCH general discussion" means "ITCH users this is the place to post everything that is not a help request".
I1Kirm 10:46 AM - 21 March, 2010
BTW, nice lights KMX. I just have a feeling that too many stuff was going on. Do you usually keep all your lights on or you did that just to shoot the video with all lights on?
Kmxorbit 12:05 PM - 21 March, 2010
In my video the NS7 setup is'nt that visible, and that's true, but I wanted to start a topic where a fully integrated Itch setup is playing. I think this is the correct section to post that. Just like the "post your mix" topic in this section aswel. You don't see or read anything of the Itch program or controllers, but the mixes are done with the machinery. And I heared some pretty amazing mixes in that section.

Let's cut the crap. This is the correct Forum for doing that IMHO.
So please stay on topic here. Post your Vids.

@I1Kirm: I don't use them all together. I did it only for this video here.

Now com'on , I wanna see more Vids...
KmxOrbit.

KLH 7:06 PM - 21 March, 2010
Mine are coming, I've gotta a few things to do today before I can transfer the pics and video and post... It's coming though...

FINALLY got everthing posted to Flickr. Here's a quick pic of my simple setup. I didn't bring my Mackie SWA-1501 sub because it's a small house party:

www.flickr.com

Here's a quick vid (from my perspective) spinning some salsa (Woman del Callao):

Watchwww.youtube.com

I normally don't spin salsa, but will when paid to...

Oh, the lights. I don't have any yet, so the homeowner rented a disco ball and two pinspots. He also rented a dancefloor. I'm going to have to look into buying a dancefloor. Those may come in handy.

Anyways, both ITCH and the NS7 did great!

elsupermang 11:27 PM - 22 March, 2010
Simple and elegant KLH. I like it! Nice atmosphere without so much equipment
KLH 2:52 AM - 23 March, 2010
^ Yeah, but now I need to step to the big-boys club and get some wash and effect lighting. Time to learn DMX!

-KLH
Kmxorbit 8:29 PM - 24 March, 2010
Yeah Nice KLH.
Simple lighting and nice atmosphere.
About DMX: It might look difficult at first, but once you get the hang of it, it opens up a world of endless possibilities.

Where are the others with a movie from Itch equipment playing in live environment?

And guess what? You weren't playing Salsa there either. You were playing Merengue, which is very different from Salsa.

Well...In my point of view, this topic is very interesting..
@ Kmxorbit...
It's been a lot of years ago (more than 10),that i was working in a club doing the lightning stuff...We had 16 moving heads driven by a DMX console..
I have to admit that you 've done excellent job and a great setup in lights.
Of course as i can see,you spend a lot of money in this equipment...
So..considering that someone has a very tight budget (around 1000$),what equipment do you think that he can buy, that is "value for money"?..I mean "smaller budget" vs "lightning effect results" and larger surface coverage?...
What do you think about the American dj "REVO III" vs "Quad LED"?And what about the new "Triple-flex"?..Or is there something else that you can advice someone to buy?
Thank you and congratulations again for the great setup..
P.S a)I dont like lasers..
b)Sorry for my english..I am Greek..!

Well, I'm a noob in the Latin styles, but I will say that they are GREAT to spin! Woman Del Caillao, Tu Sonrisa, and Suavemente - I can't get these tracks out of my head!!! I may have to study up on the Latin styles because those layered percussion lines are just ear candy. Big ups to those who know these genres. I'm straight-up jealous. Those tunes can rock a party for a LONG time...

Anyways, someone else post a gig vid. Let's keep this thread going!

-KLH
MusicDan 5:09 PM - 25 March, 2010
It's funny, those are older songs but they can sure fill a dance floor, especially Suavemente. This is not a joke and I am not being racists, but everytime I play Suavemente at a black party, I get a scream from the crowd, especially the older women. They just love that song.
Kmxorbit 5:57 PM - 25 March, 2010
@ DJ Giannis: The Revo III is very good when lighting larger (dance)floors or ceilings
I combine always with a ADJ Quad as it is very usefull for straight walls or small dancefloors. Always combine these effects with smoke. the difference is undisputable...
I just love these effects, and LED technology is powerfriendly. Today I would buy them again if I needed to...

With a budget of 1000$ you must be able to find a tripod with T-bar, 1x ADJ revo III, 1 ADJ Quad, A smoke machine, 2 PowerLed PARS (which can be used as an equivalent of 8 x 500w pars, because they can take every color both at the same time) and a DMX controller. You'll have already an awesome setup. And in second hand you must be able to find even more.

@KLH & Music Dan: Suavemente must be a worldhit. Even in Europe it still does the trick in certain moments. ;-)

Now, Where are the other video's with an Itch setup!
Zuck 8:37 PM - 26 March, 2010
Nice to see some mobile Dj on the forums :-)

That's a pretty big light setup Kmxorbit, it's nice! Were you using fog or a hazer?

I don't know about the rest of you guys but I rarely run into a venue that I can use fog because of the fire detectors, it's not allowed and hazers are $$$. So I stay away from lazers
Quote:

for that reason too.

No strobes because of seizures...uh, so what's that leave us with?

djgiannis - The Revo III is the best! I actually throw it on the ceiling, I'll try and get a video of it so you can see what I'm talking about. I also use a Mega Pixel Bar for wash and slow dances, and two ADJ Reflex's, they looked grate in the ADJ Video but now that I have them I think they suck. I also use ADJ Pocket Scans, a Double Mace, and a Lotus which are great but I'd like to phase them out and only use LED's.

I know, I know, you want a video.

Anyway, I don't have a DMX but want to get one, any suggestions?
djgiannis 10:04 PM - 26 March, 2010
I haven't seen any of these lights live, only the ADJ videos.
I am a Marriage DJ and i work in a place that organises these events, mostly outdoors.
For indoors (on winter),i have 2 moving heads and 2 wash...I use a DMX console for programming them...Every summer i take all the lights out,for the outdoors events and when the party is over,i have to put them in the attic..And carrying 2 old technology moving heads (about 25 kg each),for about 150 meters, its not the best thing for my back...
That's why,i asked for a budget 1000-1500$ from the owners,to make a new setup for outdoors,so i dont have to move everything in and out every season. And unscrewing these "monsters" from the wall every summer to take them out,is not so easy!..
I have decided to buy 4 pieces of lights..I need 2 scans, because i have to focus on the couple (use them as spots, with no gobo),when they cut the cake and they have their first dance and 2 more lights that spread multiple beams to make a combination for the light show when people dance.
For the scans,i think of the new ADJ Comscan LED and for the 2 other lights i am between "Revo III" and "Revo Xpress".What i dont like in "Revo III" (and "Quad Gem"),is that "circle gobos" produced by the LEDs, moving here and there...Revo Xpress (and Revo 4),work differently, producing thousands of different gobos, because they are not "grouping" the leds in circles.Revo Xpress, has also 4 different beams that they move in different directions, covering a large area. They also say (in the ADJ site),that you can use it with or without fog...But i dont know if it is as bright as the Revo III..
So..What do you think of my selections?..Any other suggestions?..
Thank you all...
Kmxorbit 3:50 PM - 27 March, 2010
@ Zuck,
I use a fog fountain. ofcourse only in places without fire detection (this was the case this time)

The lasers aren't that expensive and a low energy category. Ofcourse I need to make sure they shine most of the time above the people, and they aren't allowed to focus on 1 single point for more then 0.5secs because that could be harmfull if it shine in someone's eye.

Revo IV is the next on my list. I'm very happy with these Revo's. And possibly some mega led bars.

For the moving heads I Use brightlight Indigo 150 (20W LED lightsource) (also sold under showtec indigo 150). They have same output then a 150w discharge light and they are very good, and actually not expensive at all for their possibilities. The weight is only 7Kg/pce. Maybe a solution for you DJ Giannis.

I dont know if ADJ Comscan is as bright as Indigo 150,but its half the price and half the weight (3.6 Kg/pce)...Now that i checked Indigo's price,is about 1000$ for 2 pieces..Comscan is much cheaper...And i prefer to buy everything from ADJ,so they are compatible with the UC3 wireless remote...
But anyway,thanks pal...

Here's my video: dje1.com

I feel there's a lil too much going on with the lights kind of just running sound active by themselves. We didn't have many places to put them so we decided to put them in that corner which was kind of hard to access so I was unable to turn some off or shoot as much fog as I wanted. People loved the music though and party though and i guess that's what counts the most :D

Last weekend my DJ colleague and I used a double Serato Itch set-up for an event we did.

Please don't bother it's a promotion clip + we had to choose royalty-free music for it.
But, I post it here because it was a great experience to DJ battle against each other and with each other on the Ns7 and the V7's in 1 single DJ Booth. It was great fun.

Hope you like it...
