57 MAIN VOLUME XLR MALE PROBLEMS.

So I jusT got done djing a party with my 1 week old 57 mixer.
- THE PROBLEM
I connected the XLR female to the XLR male on the mixer. On the other end I had a 1/4 male so I bought a converter to convert it to XLR FEMALE (I did this on both cables). I used the same cables this past wed and everything was working fine. Today the volume was really low so I had to use the BOOTH outputs instead of the main. I did this by taking off the adaptor from the OG cable I had (1/4 inch to XLR female).
Why was the volume low? Was it the mixer or the Cables? After the party I updated the firmware. I dont know if that had anything to do with it, but I havent done this to the mixer. Any help is greatly apprecaited. Thanks guys.

could be the adapter
I suggest you use a one piece xlr male to female cable
I would suggest one off here www.monoprice.com
Just used my 57 with on of those at a gig last week, and I didn't have my main volume past 2, great output
