The 3 zip ties it came with have broken on me. So Im getting some new ones today and wanted to know if VELCRO STRAPS would be better? What do you guys think?

I really don't like that stand anymore. I've used it a lot without any zipties and it's fine. The weight of the lappy will hold it down.

Never used the ties and its totally fine, i know you can get velcro cable ties used for data cable which would be easier do do up/rip open.

never used a zip tie but i do have am issue with that video of the guy punching the laptop...when he hits it the whole stand moves and ends up stabilizing itself. i usually have my mixer on top of the stand so if i were to do the same thing, it would tip over a lot easier. having said that, i havent had any problems with it because i wouldnt punch my laptop anyway

look at what those straps are supposed to do...keep it from tipping back...
try tipping it back with the laptop on top (or a heavy book)...
let me know what you get...

In the army I had a piece of shit HUMMVV, one day on the Autobahn it just stopped working. My section SGT. grabbed a roll of duct tape got under the hood and within 20 minutes he had it running. Oh and those zip ties work wonders.

What do I think? I think it's laughable that 3+ years later this silly zip tie debate still rages on. www.scratchlive.net - And the answer today is same as it was back then: NO, a zip tie is NOT NEEDED. If it makes you feel better to use one, fine, by all means use it, but in all these years, traveling around he world, week after week, under countless setup scenarios gigging two Uberstands simultaneously (one for MacBook Pro, one for MIDI controller), not once have I ever had a single issue. It does precisely what it was designed to do and does it perfectly, time, after time, after time. One piece, ridiculously simple setup/breakdown, ultra-compact, lightweight, durable, etc. It has it all (except height/tilt adjustment - two features I've never needed or missed having).

You're wrong!
The laptop was mainly slapped slide to slide in the video. If the stand's base is stationary(like under a coffin) and you push the stand from front to back without the zip tie, your laptop will fall backward. Yeah, like you said, it works fine without it...but it's better to be safe than sorry.
The zip tie makes it less prone to topple backwards.

lol, huh? Sounds like you're agreeing with me. Besides, it's an opinion based on 3+ years of real world usage, so how could I be "wrong"? lol (I had to read the sequence here three times, each time I lol'd)
BTW, just curious, I presume the front of the laptop/stand would be facing the DJ, right? So then why would the DJ be concerned about pushing his/her own laptop away from them (from front to back like you said) with enough force to counter the weight and knock it over? Seems counter productive.

I am saying you can use it without out it - but it's better if you use it. The zip tie is a safety mechanism - kinda a like a seat beat, you can drive for years without incident - but the one time someone bumps into ya, you'll be glad your wearing it.
I think that's why the manufacture included the tie. You wouldn't want someone to follow your recommendation and not secure the base - and come to you for reimbursement when their laptops topple right.

Some people dj with there laptops on the side. Another people are just clumsy. Or some dj's get tipsy. Sometimes girls want to come around your booth to dance or dance with ya...bump bump bump....
You can't seriously say the stand is topple proof because yours never tipped over...

No, of course not, and not once did I say it was "topple proof"... which is precisely why I said "If it makes you feel better to use one, fine, by all means use it". Only the end user can decide if they are clumsy enough, or if the environment in which they are working is uncontrolled/violent enough to warrant the use of a zip tie. And if you go back and read the thread that was linked from several years ago, you'll see that same recommendation echoed.

The thing of saying you might bump it backwards seems weird also...like you've never tried to bump it back 1st hand...Im thinking of revisiting that video with my tension meter...and do a side by side versus...but then I know science and proof never read arguments! LOL

Your video was great. You smacked it pretty hard and your laptop did not fall. My concern is that I put my mixer or mixer case on top of the bottom legs. So one tiny push and the laptop is going over. Thats why I fell like the ZIPTIE would help it from falling.

yeah I sit my turntale cases on it when I play...And in a situation like that I can see keeping from falling over from "extreme" force like you fall or are knocked into it with crazy power...but I bet the laptop would slide off then anyway....so I can see where youre coming from Djaward

Was just checking because I hadn't seen your video before that was referenced here in this thread and the one I posted under the "Soulsonica" account was actually mine (my old account's username was "Soulsonica" and my new one of course is Black Science). Oh well, you can lead a horse to water and all that. lol

i've been using the uberstand since it came out and have never used the ziptie once. under normal operating conditions the stand will not tip over.
can the stand tip over...yes. someone would literally have to grab your laptop with the intent of knocking it down for the stand to tip over. or an earthquake or some shit. and if that was the case it could happen on that ugly ass l-stand (or any stand for that matter).
