New to Itch

V-Mag 8:04 PM - 16 March, 2010
I am currently using Scratchlive for the past 5 years and love it. I'm looking into purchasing the Vestex VCI-300 for some small venues that I frequently go to.

My question is how stable and dependent is Itch? I know Itch is now on version 1.5. I plan to use this for weddings, corporate parties, and dinner cruises on a boat.

I have read the board and see goods and bads of Itch. My concern is the stability and can I trust it to work flawlessly like Scratchlive. I am currently using a Macbook Pro and played around with the software( which is just like Scrathclive in many ways.)

Looking on input if it safe to go with this software and hardware purchase.

Thanks

I find it extremely stable. havent had a crash playing live in 1.5 years. you are already using a macbook pro which puts you on the more stable side of the fence. I have been running it on PC trouble free.

on a macbook pro you should have no problems

+1. Never had a hitch on a MBP

On a PC, you need to optimize Windows and test it.

And in live gigs, you need stable power. The hardware doesn't have a battery to fall back on (like laptops do).

It does have if you're using the VCI with a laptop. It is bus-powered, remember? If the laptop has battery juice so has your VCI

Two things:

1. You need a separate sampler app if you want to play samples
2. The mic latency is horrible so I recommend getting a small external mixer. I got a Mackie 402 VLZ3. I love it since it has two mic inputs, RCA input, 1/4" in and out and also a 1/4" headphone output for a monitor speaker.

Regarding Itch stability, i have yet to have a crash or even a hiccup on Itch (well except that one bug when changing effects too fast on the VFX-1). Rock solid all around.

The software is Solid and the NS7 is solid. It just all relies on the laptop you use. I had many issues at start ( Dell win 7 ) but it had everything to do with my laptop. Since I had that ironed out I've played manyhours straight with out a single hickup.

+1; I just did a Paddy's Day gig and used the NS7's mic-input all night. If there's a delay, it must be the same latency as the platters so it's all good in my book.

Yes, i was referring specifically to the VCI-300 in terms of mic delay.
KLH 3:48 AM - 19 March, 2010
^ That's weird. IIRC, the VCI-300 didn't have mic latency when the NS7 came out. Now the NS7 doesn't have mic latency and the VCI-300 does... Damn peculiar.

proves the NS7 is better... ( internal laugh)...... :)

^ Is that the basis for a NS7 versus VCI-300 thread??? I think it is... JK

Yes love my VCI-300 because its so portable. I can put up everything and leave before all the guests do lol or even before the cops come.

Chris ross, It’s not that one is better than the other, it’s more of what the persons necessity is that will dictate which one is better for them, the VCI-300 or the NS7? They are both top notch units.
Subdriven 2:42 PM - 20 March, 2010
Exactly... I perfer the NS7... the fact how small the VCI is to me is a deal breaker... lol
kraal 4:55 PM - 20 March, 2010
i perfer the vci-300 cause that was what i got used to first and geared my performance to that machine
czar 6:12 PM - 20 March, 2010
the VCI is awesome to throw inside a bookbag together with a lappy and head anywhere without having to carry 50 pounds of gear.. small to fit in a bag and no one will ever know what u carry. The NS7 is nicer to scratch tho the wheels could be larger and it looks more classic compared to the smaller size of the VCI. Both are nice controllers.
KLH 6:49 PM - 20 March, 2010
Guys, that was a joke. All ITCH platforms have their strengths. I see no reason to debate which is "better."

I had both. And to be honest I loved both even though i sold my NS7. I think it was a big mistake selling the NS7. The NS7 looks really good when you have alot of room and want that professional and classic DJ look. I always loved the VCI-300 more though because its way more portable and since you can adjust the jogwheel torque I was always faster scrubbing through songs and mixing with the pitch bend. I'm waiting to see what else pops up before purchasing an NS7FX. The Xone is cool but I don't see any benefit to buying it having a VCI-300 already. I don't need 4 decks and the added size and weight with inferior jogwheels and no touch sensitivity

Every person has there priorities and wants different things in a setup... Each Itch controler has it's ups and down... I personaly like the NS7 because it still has the oldschool feel of vinyl. Plus I like the size, it feels and looks like I actualy have something and has a great feel to it......

To each there own.. :)

Thanks for all the input. It's good to know that Itch is stable running off a Macbook Pro. I'm looking forward to purchasing the VCI-300 shortly!
