ITCH seriously just needs to recognize the folders and music on your hard drive. I was doing a gig and there were songs i knew i had but since id didn't do the whole ITCH/ANALYZE song and dance i couldn't find them in the search.
so please serato lets come to some type of folder reconization so when i add songs to my hard drive ITCH knows it is there

couldnt you have done a spotlight search and drag/drop over to a deck? sounds more like you are complaining about your own failure to manage your playlists.

asking for a feature isnt complaining it would be complaining i would be saying things like 'serato ruined my mix ect'
i am just saying that is the only feature i actually need not just something i want ... mainly cause i own over 50,000 songs and there is no way i will remember to put each and everyone in a playlist

Someone please enlighten me, what's the benefit of building crates in serato compare to just have it shown in serato gui the way how you set up your music folder in your directoy like virtualdj, i think it would be way better to have it the way vdj does there music view. Serato should have it that once you point serato to your music directory, it shows up with all your crates and subcrates.. then when you scan it, the serato folder get save in the same music directory with all the track info. Now when you add new music to your directory all should have to do is press analyze and every new songs get analyze.

@krall: in the meantime, what about making your own 'All' crate? Then drag the top-level music folder to this crate. It will insure Serato always knows about all songs in your folder structure, so you can still find by search, even if you haven't added a song to its "real" crate. And when you add new music, you just re-drag the top-level folder onto this 'All' crate and it will add all the new tracks and not mess with the existing ones.
This is actually how I import all my new music. It first gets dragged into my own 'All' crate and then from there I jump to the bottom to analyze all the new tracks in batch mode using the offline player. And then from there, I also drag things off into their proper crates.
I still wish there was a view to see all the crates a track is linked to, though. That way one could easily find all the tracks that are only in the 'All' bucket crate and sort them off into their proper crates.

the beauty of the crate structure is you can make it any way you want with duplicate files all over the place... if it went by folders, you'd have to have duplicate copies all over the place.
it'd be nice to have both... or even to create a crate structure that mirrors the physical folder structure with one command.. and then be able to move stuff around and duplicate in the virtual world, the serato way with crates.

Yeah like every other DJ Software, VDJ, Traktor even Ableton offers this.
You just click on search folder, choose either the main music folder as default and then all the rest underneath shows up and the best thing about that is that when ever you add music, folders or what ever is shows up.
NO Need to resync, re add or re create stupid crates makes our job alot faster. No need to sort and re sort constantly.

+1...Totally agree.
The search function is the one thing I really miss from VDJ...no need to switch to Finder/Explorer or spotlight to find a song in your HD that is not in a crate.
Or at least, make us able to do searches from within the ITCH "FILES" menu and make the results appear as mp3 tags ( as opposed to file names ), that way we can see the comments , artist and title fields...Bit rate field will be great too...you know, to spot those duplicate tracks which I want to get rid of the one with the lowest bit rate...That's the way I have been cleaning up my HD with VDJ...everytime I look up for a song and get duplicate tracks, I just get rid of the one that seems like the lowest sound quality from the bunch.

I'm 110% with you on this one as well....and hate to say it again.....but VDJ does that.
Don't get me wrong, I love ITCH and SSL...I just think it just makes sense to be able to explore your HD from within the software...I like to have ITCH on full screen...so switching back and forth to the Finder/Explorer is a pain.
I also use the crates as means of separating tracks that are a MUST or for a specific event such as a wedding's MUST PLAY SONGS.

FOR ITCH MODERATORS:
Could we have something like an online poll or similar on which you, ITCH developers, can list a few features that have been requested in these forums before and then each one of us ( by using our serial numbers as validation for a one-time-only vote) inputs which one of those is priority #1 and so on.
Then based on the results, you guys could prioritize your future developments and avoid wasting time working on features that most of us don't use...such as the "FILE" menu.
Just a thought.

Just my 2 cents but,
I prefer to use itunes to sort my music. It consolidates all my files and I never run into this sorta problem.
Plus you can create playlists on an ipod when you're out and about so I don't feel there's a problem

There is no debate on whether these things can be done through another software(s)...of course you can...but the main reason for this feature request is to avoid having to use another program outside ITCH to do simple things like searching tracks in our HDDs that have not been included in any crates.

Maybe its a feature of later revisions of iTunes, but are you saying that if you add a file to your your folder structure in windows\finder you don't need to drag it into iTunes for it to be recognized? otherwise I would think even if you are using iTunes you would run into the same problem....

IC, nice to know that you're the ST author. Great job mate. You have saved me countless hours so I own you a lot :P
Speaking of problems, the only one that ST are causing to me is the "improper/wrong" sorting when I use the -p option. I've read on your blog that you found the bug and fix it in an upcoming release... Any timeframes on this?

Haha, no worries, it has saved me counless hours of work as well. That was the initial motivation of writing that app. I started when I was sick of manually dragging and dropping folders, resetting columns, finding lost/move files - at a point where SSL did not have any of those features. Thankfully Serato added some of those features step by step.
Not sure which bug you are referring to, but feel free to shoot me a PM to elaborate ;)

I appreciate everything they do with features and upgrades, but the fact that basic reliable scanning and overview building is not 100% completely unacceptable. Has Serato addressed this problem or what? I have written bug reports and have seen that they claim to have "fixed" for a scanning problem in the 1.5 update, but it is not working properly. I scanned my mirrored hard drive with mixmeisterr this past weekend then did spot checks for songs I knew I had but could not find on my primary HD. Mixmiester helped me identify a ton. Furthermore, some tracks that are found in Itch are often not analyzed. I know there I workarounds, and I use them all the time. Bottom line we should be able to scan the ENTIRE HD in one drag and drop action and have every single files added to the search database, then with one click build every single overview with 100% reliability. Am I nuts (well at least my assessment of this situation). Whats happening with everyone else, but I am getting seriously frustrated over here.

I agree with all the complainers on here... honestly i've just switched over from PCDJ FX ... yeah the one from years ago... regardless, my HD is all jacked up from using a program that works with all files and levels of subfolders and its a nightmare trying to fix it all for ITCH. So while we are all frustrated, I may as well roll the dice and ask is it too much trouble to recognize .wma's? I have about 9,000 i'd love to not to convert.
