Hi guys, I just purchased an NS7 a few days ago and I LOVE it. The only thing I have a question about is: when I stop the platters, they are very slow to start back up again (at least compared to my old 1200's). Like they will start spinning slowly and take a few seconds to get up to actual speed.
I have tried switching the Motor Torque to high, and decreased (and increased) the start time on the platter, but nothing seems to change it.
Am I doing something wrong here? Or is that just how they are?
Thanks for the help!

Hello,
Like turntables there is a physical period in which the motors have to spin up.
The latency setting you have set in options will affect the amount of time the start message takes slightly where is this set?

If the start time is set to the minimum, it shouldn't take longer than a second to get up to speed, you can also enable the "Instant playback" option from the "PLAYBACK" tab in the "SETUP" screen, this will bypass the platters for initial start up.

There is no "Instant playback" option!! Im having same prob with my Ns7!! The start time is set all the way down, sometimes it starts instantly, sometimes it takes 10 seconds!! Thats without changing ANYTHING!!

If you have an NS7, there is an "Instant playback" option in the "GENERAL" section of the "PLAYBACK" tab, if this is not there for you, could you please upload a screen shot for me to see.
If your NS7 is not obeying the start time setting then I would recalibrate your NS7 to see if that fixes it but the Instant playback option is to bypass the platter start time completely but it only works when the start time is set to near minimum.
I think the calibration steps should be in the user manual.
Take your time when doing it to ensure it is done correctly & let me know if you have any problems.

I have selected the Instant playback option to bypass the platter start time completely and the start time dial is set to near minimum but I am still running to a similar issue when the track is paused and selecting play. You can still hear the song wind up to normal speed within 1-2 sec but its still noticeable, especially if you do alot of weddings where sometimes ur not blending two songs but rather just simply starting a song up. Its inconsitent, meaning sometimes it works fine sometimes it does not. For now after I cue the song i have to turn the motor off and press play, which works great. Is this a known issue on 1.4, because I saw some where that it was fixed in 1.5, I have not uploaded 1.5 yet bc 1.4 has been very stable. If this was addressed in 1.5 than I will update.

Hi DjHelios,
I don't think this was an issue in 1.4, I think it was broken & fixed in 1.5, however I don't know that for sure so I will check that out.
I would recommend upgrading to 1.5 as there have been many fixes & improvements.
NOTE: some users with Macbook Pro's have been experiencing an issue with the 2.0.2 NS7 driver included in the ITCH 1.5 installer when using AAC files, if you experience this issue you can roll back the driver to 1.6.4 & still use ITCH 1.5 & there is no guarantee you will experience this issue anyhow.
Try upgrading & I will investigate the start time issue with 1.4.
Cheers,
Zeb.

I have upgraded to 1.5 and still have this problem!! When it Happens I have to turn the start time dial up & back down, Its like hitting reset!! This works for a while but then it happens again out of the blue for no apparent reason!! I get so nervous about it, I set my loop & cue point then start it 10 times in my headphones to make sure its gonna start up right!!

Hi DJRicksta
I just updated to 1.5 and the problems seems corrected for me, but I did not test it for a long set, I did about 30min-45min, I would play one song, let it end and hit play and it would instantly start in 1.5, I will test it out more tonight.......

Ya I am using 1.5 now, its an on again off again problem! I go for while b4 it happens but im always on the lookout for it, like I said I just turn the start time knobs up & back down and it seems to reset them!! Pretty sad to say for an item I paid $1200 for ...I just deal with it!!
Subdriven, I find that the Instant playback DEFINATELY not cancel out the start time knobs, you still HAVE TO have them set all the way down!! Thats just from my experience with it!!

Ok.. I have this isue very rare and my crossfader doesn't work very rarely too.. both just need a small twiest of the knob and it resets them.. Seems to be the same saftware or driver issue that causes both problems..

Yes that is how it's suppose to work, if you turn the START TIME knob up from the minimum, it overrides the instant playback option, this is so you can have both options without having to go into the setup screen to disable that feature everytime.
Without Instant playback selected there is still a wind up at the minimum start time setting when enabling play because ITCH is following the platter, if Instant playback is selected the platter is ignored during the initial start period.
If your start time knob is set to minimum & Instant playback is selected there should be no ramp in pitch, the start time knob should start to override the Instant playback option at about the 9 o'clock position.

Yea, zeb is saying you have the option to do instant starts. But this issue does happen now and then that no mater where the knob is it will take the max amount of time to either start or stop..

thats right. the overide instant start option does NOT help this defective platter start up/stop speed problem. i am still awaiting an answer on how to fix my new ns7.?????
it seems the numark crew know that this is a problem and refuse to admit it, or solve it.
check the number of posts on this issue. it is a DEFECT in the ns7

This is not a hardware issue, the software can choose to ignore the platter spin up.
All platters have spin up including turntables.
Please work with Zeb to diagnose what is not working in the software. I have been trying to reproduce the problem on our systems but cannot.

The same thing has been happening to me on 1.5. It would even happen on 1.1. I have posted about this issue before as well.
I have had to resort to grabbing the vinyl like a traditional turntable to drop the song in while the motor is turning. I just can’t trust when the platter will chose not to instant start. And I don’t mean that it starts like if you had instant start turned off. It starts like if you had the start knob all the way to the + when in fact it is set all the way to the -. A looooooooong dragging start and a looooooooong dragging stop. I turn the knobs all the way to plus and then back to – and it works fine again until it decides to act up again
I am going to try to shoot video of when it happens.

Hey guys,
I have tried to reproduce this on all supported Mac & PC OS versions, using both ITCH versions 1.5 & 1.1 & have not had a single instance of the start time being anything other than what was selected in ITCH & on the NS7.
Obviously this is a serious problem for some users & needs to be addressed.
We will try & figure out why this is only an issue for some users & not others, as this is an important factor in solving this issue.
To make it easier for me, could everybody who is having an issue with this particular problem please make a short post in this thread, only listing their computer specs & OS details. This will make it easier for me to collate these details.
We appreciate your patients & cooperation.
Cheers,
Zeb.

DJMIA, that would be great :) or if anyone else experiencing this issue manages to make one. Hopefully if we can see it happening it might give us a clue to the cause or how to reproduce it ourselves :)

Nice to know how I`m not the only one having this issue. I can confirm that this is happening to my V7. Knobs are set all the way to the left I had to mess with the knob to reset it yet all this time I thought it was the LPF effect. Tried to reproduce it but hasen`t been happening I guess it happens when it wants to. I just produced a help thread several minutes ago

Is there a video available on how to calibrate the NS7? I found the instruction manual to be very confusing on this subject.
