I asked Dub about it and he said that it is an attachment that connects to the normal CRANE stand. The stand in the picture is the height adjustable one which is their older model.

We want to clear the air ASAP on this one.

The PIC shown above is a prototype of the new exclusive Scratch Live clip attached to the prototype telescoping Crane Stand add-on.

We have not released this for production yet. This was just a teaser. There are a few small things to fine-tune before we let this loose.

The old version of the Crane Stand is, unfortunately, packed full of problems and has been discontinued for about a year now. For those that don't know, the "old version" used powder coated steel and detente pins.

The Standard Crane Stand is what you will find on our website.

The telescoping add-on is a mod that you should see available in April or sooner. You will be able to take your Standard Crane Stand apart and replace the risers with the new telescoping risers. You can get a good idea by looking at our owner's manual (under publications) on page 8:

I personally think this is the best stand on the market and I wouldn't use anything else. Once you see / hold / use this stand you understand why this is the first and last stand you need to buy. $150, so what, you can use this thing for years. Worth every penny in my personal opinion.

If I remember correctly from reading my owners manual they have a limited lifetime warranty so this thing will def last the long haul.

Agreed. I use the NS7 stand for mobile, but when my buddy Will and I DJ, I use his Crane stand. BUILT LIKE A F*CKING TANK.

the new stand is sic . Its $150 he told me with a lifetime warrenty unlike others I've broken. This also can hold a cdj for doing 4 deck mixing. I told the guy this at namm.

Ya.. the new one is height adjustable up to 18 or 19" (not exactly sure).
I verified that the current stand goes up to 13".

The SL1/3 attachment will only be available with the new, height adjustable, stand but I was told they will be designing a generic attachment for use with the current stand as well.

Keep in mind that this is just an add-on. The Standard Crane Stand and the Telescoping Add-on are two separate items. That means you can pick up your Standard Crane Stand whenever and mod the unit later.

We will not sell the full telescoping unit. The add-on will be purchased separately. The same goes for the clip.

I was under the impression that the stand costs $150. That's a little more than usual, but it looks like it'll be worth it. There will be a telescope option later on. My question is, will this telescope feature be included on new models for the same $150 price tag? Or will we have to pay the same $150 plus extra for this add-on?

The add-on costs us more to make. We are not sure what the retail price will be quite yet. You may purchase the standard Crane Stand any time. The standard sits about 13" and the telescoping hits about 18 or 19". When the add-on is purchased, you simply un-screw the tensioning knobs all the way to take the stand apart. Then, you replace the standard risers with the tele-risers. It's just that simple. :)

At this point, we just have to ask everyone to please be patient. These developments take time to get it right. There are still a few bugs in the clip and tele. We want it to be perfect for all of our fans.

I got to use the new Crane stands all week at NAMM and really dig 'em.
I saw and used the older ones and they were cool but not quite there yet. I'm glad I waited to get one. (picked one up right after NAMM) =)
They are built more solid than any other stand I've used. (and I've used a lot of em)
I think there are some pretty good stands on the market but I also think none of them have gotten it completely right yet... there is something I don't like about all of them.
The CRANE stand is (imo) the best overall stand out there with it's build quality, adjustability, ease of use and option for add-ons. It does cost more than most stands but it's an investment that's gonna pay for itself in the long run. If you DJ for a living or are serious about it, you want to buy products that are gonna last and you can get a lot of use out of so I think it's worth it.

and a buck fifty is not really a lot of money(for a solid product), if you are a working dj it should be paid for in a hour

i was gonna pick up a uberstand because my old stand is beat, now i'm gonna get one of these crane stands

I'm still not 100% sure about the pricing of the advancements, but I can be patient. I'm sure they'll have all the information we need in due time. One thing I'm almost sure of is that they will probably be sold out of their first run.

I just called them in Seattle, and spoke to them for about 20 min, and after all of the thing that will be offered, i kicked down the $150 for this stand. I have an Odyssey & a Stanton Uber stand. The Odyssey, kept losing parts, and it would not tighten down kept moving. The Uber stand, was wobbly and the Zip tie locking mechanism was very high tech (NOT) so i drilled into the base and tapped the base with machine screws to lock the base in place. It solved the zip tie problem, but it still was wobbly, and i want to add a Denon DJ DN-HC1000S and mount it to the front lip of the stand, which would have made it very unstable. But after talking to Rob from Crane Hardware, they already are going to address this issue with a Mod that will be available in a few months that will attach to the front of the Crane Stand, which will support the 2.2 pound Denon DJ DN-HC1000S, it will rest in front of the laptop then. And will be getting the telescopic mod in March or April when it comes out. (It replaces the 2 vertical struts and after that point you should get more height, the stand right now is the same height as the Uber stand, so it works for me now without the telescopic mod, but I DJ many different venues so i never know what i might need. So i always come prepared. The only thing that SUCKS is i have to wait about 4 weeks for it.

We may do bundle deals when stock is up, but for now, we can only see getting the mods and accessories out separately.

This is the final unit and will not be changed in the foreseeable future. When we started development on the Standard, we want to be able to add accessories to the unit. That is what we are in the process of developing now. Please take a moment to go to the website, click on publications, then click on owner's manual. On page #8 you will see an exploded view of the Standard Crane Stand. The two 'Risers' shown on the page can be replaced with the new tele-risers (set to release after April).

yeah I noticed that it fold flat, which is what I am looking for. I currently have the "L" stand, which in my opinion is VERY sturdy, but I have to get a screw driver out and re-configure it if I'm using my coffin, or for certain booths. I have actually just been leaving it at home lately and putting my laptop off to the side. It's good practice and the 57 can control most everything.

I was at Moog about a week ago looking into laptop stands, they showed me the L Stand and the Crane, needless to say when I go back to buy, I'm getting the Crane.

Anyway, the model they showed me wasn't black like on the website, it was just grey/metal and instead of Crane it said Moog on the bottom, although the employee did say it was a Crane stand. I'm wondering if this is the older model, or simply a different paint job for Moog. I read in another thread that you guys had a previous stand that you improved upon to make the current one, and I'd definitely want the latest. If this means ordering online as opposed to Moog its no big deal, but ideally a 10 min streetcar ride beats waiting for it to ship.

Those are def the older models. My buddy has one, and even though they're nice and work great, I would get the newer one from their site. They've said that the sl1/sl3 tray and basically all other accessories will only work on the new stands so if that is something that you're interested in I'd get a new one.

I have the Stanton Uber Stand & the Odyssey stand ind its higher than both of them, but if you need more height then in April sometime, you can buy the telescopic legs for the crane stand (But you first have to buy the stand, it wont ship with the telescopic legs, it an ad-on only) I'm going to get my just in case i run into a place where i might need height

yeah...i find when i use my laptop with my boy's uberstand, its too shaky and it doesnt feel stable 2 all...i have to use the uberstand backwards to at least help me with some of the nervousness that i have when using it, scared my laptop will fall "face-firstd" (or in this case, screen first)

Just ordered one. Currently using two Uberstands (one for MacBook Pro, other for MIDI controller) and have had zero complaints about them other than that they don't tilt. Looking forward to getting hands (and equipment) on the Crane. If it's half as good as the reports are I'll be ordering a second one.

Oh, and lol at people squawking about the price. Quality design, materials and manufacturing costs more than subpar crap. As with most things in life, you get what you pay for... and my gut is telling this Crane unit is just another example of that rule.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, Crane has REAL LIVE PEOPLE who actually ANSWER THE PHONE and have TRUE PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE. Amazing but true, but sadly this type dedication to customer service is virtually non-existant in this day and age. Placed an early morning call the other day and I believe it was Garrett who promptly answered all of my nitty gritty detailed pre-purchase questions. This attention to the stuff that matters alone is worth the extra $$$ IMO. They're coming out with a bunch of addons soon. Telescoping legs (19 in or something) so you can bring them along and swap heights quickly depending on how the booth is setup. Also a tray for the serato box/harddrives. There was also talk of an addon that would attach to the front to fit a midi controller (dennon or lpd8 size)

I just hope they're going to be releasing a machined billet aluminum drink holder attachment with adjustable clamps large enough for a 7-11 BigGulp/Slurpee.

ok.. so i just got the crane. this thing is pretty neat. i like the way it folds up. now if u set ur gear up early in the day, and come back later, and u wanna close ur macbook, its cool. u dont have to lift up ur macbook to open it. they designed it with a little slot where u can open easily without any lifting... very cool

i like how u can turn the parts to really tighten it up! at first glance i was like.. this wont work its too loose, but after playin with it for a bit. i figured it out. which was easy enough

i like how they use the rubber parts to keep ur macbook stable and not sliding all over

best of all... it fits right into my headliners bag.. now i dont have to worry about carrying it seperately! huge bonus!!!

only downside is that u cant extend it. which i hear they are coming with a part for that.

overall i like it. but with no other stands comparable. i can see why they charge more than others. which sucks. is it worth the money ? if u have it.. yes. if not u can get by...

I like the the look of the Crane stand certainly coupled with the additions. I'm always campaigning in my area for clubs to adopt some of this stuff. Nothing worse that rocking up to a club and everything is nailed down.

Got my Crane stand 2 weeks ago. My Odyssey has been retired and my Uberstand been demoted to holding my less valuable gear like my MPD 24. I was never comfortable putting my mac on the Uberstand and never will again. Love the adjustability that the Crane provides. Used it for a show last night as a matter of fact. If I were to have one complaint it would also be a compliment. This thing is sturd but because it is sturdy, it weighs more than my Uberstand and is a bit more bulky to pack. No prob though this stand kicks ass.

what's the thickness of this stand when it's folded up?

maybe 3/4 inch to 1 inch at most.

My friends, without any idea of how much the "average" DJ stand cost, scoffed at the loot I dropped on my Crane. That said, every time they see a different stand at a venue they're like "that shit sucks. They should get that stand you have."

getting 2 as soon as i have the cash to spare... the adjustability alone has me sold... that and they look sooo much cleaner than other stands. funny part is the uberstand now comes in colors for an extra 20 making it 99.00... making the crane look that much better!!

They do sell pretty well except we do get hated on for the price. I really wish we could lower it a little, but, it is just not possible. I bet the new accessories will fly!

When I bought mine the guy selling it to me did seem to expect me to change my mind because of the price, when I told him I wanted to buy one he said "you know they're heaps expensive right?"

I payed 120 for a uberstand and $200 for the crane, the difference in quality definitely makes it worth every cent. I completely trust the Crane, was never 100% confident with the stanton.

You wont have a problem mate! The wider leg (CenterStage) is strictly there to keep the mixer from wobbling. Ean Golden at DJ Tech Tools threw his GIANT MBP on it and was stoked!

The first customer we ever had told us about his experience with the other generic stuff. He lives in Hawaii and it get a little hot out there. He was playing a show outside and the sun had been roasting his whatever-stand. The second he put his laptop on the stand, it drooped and sagged. The weight of his MBP basically crushed his heated stand and fell on his control records. Needless to say, the control record (white) was all kinds of scratched. Luckily the cross fader was on the other record!

Another story that came in to us tells the story of someone that didn't use the zip-tie on his you-know-what. His MBP tipped back and took a skydive off an elevated stage. Set and MBP were ruined.

I just picked up my stand, t-shirt and super secret prize that I won.

I must say this blows my lstand out of the water. Uberstand has no comparison.

Those of you complaining about the price shouldn't.

The stand isn't some cheap made product.
i work for a product development firm and had my ME's (mechanical engineers) check out the stand and they all agree that you can't buy this for $50 or even $100. That's more of the manufacturing cost.

This stand is dope as hell and I was lucky to pick it up with the special.

I won the sub tray. That will work great the for sl1/sl3. I'll probably use it for an external since I spin with a 57.

If you think this stand is expensive then you are probably spinning with a $400 dell laptop.

I know I wouldn't trust my $2000 mbp on any other stand but this.

The only points that matter are the points at the furthest to the edges. In fact, we tried your idea. Not a bad one and it looks ok on paper. Meh, I like to think my uberstand will get at least 40. Lots of noob djs at my bar (open deck night on Monday, plug in to their mixer) and they are constantly complaining about lack of space. I'm like, "you know they make stands for your laptop, right?"

actually I think I'm the only one with a residency that uses serato. Everyone else uses traktor or vdj. One dude still uses final scratch and he's pretty good. The Monday guy just plugs in 2 iPods to the mixer and gets drunk. He's not so good...

The super wide foot suggestion looks good in theory but I have never felt a single issue with stability using the stand under turntables/mixers. (although my mixer has adjustable feet so I can lift it enough that the mixer isn't sitting uneven with the leg under it)

How high are the feet on the Crane stand? Will they fit under a road ready mixer case?

I knew something was up when I saw my newsfeed this morning...

HELL TO THE YEAH!!!!!

So what's the vertict, then?

Well first off - Crane guys are on point, immediate response to all my ?'s, had a lil mishap with the Bag it came in, a lil tear - they took care of it. I got the Stand today - after a lil limbo of not really knowing when/if it was going to get here, it just showed up, about 3days shipping from East to West, pretty decent for USPS

The stand is incredibly stable in both positions (Upright/Z) - holds a cdj without a problem - maybe even a turntable if it had a lil wider tray assembly

You can adjust it to whatever height you need without loosing stability (in the Z position)

Looks good

In the upright position, if you want to use your laptop safely, you will most likely have to disassemble the tray and flip it around or add some kind of rubber/padding to it in the stock position. Could present a problem for a projector without feet or something, i dont have one to test it but. . . the surface is slippery with other metals

I can deff see some scratches/abrasion points with a macbook/or other gear with the tray assembly pointing down and without some kind of padding - also the tray assemblies rubber feet are key for not tearing up the front face of your laptop, however it would be nice if maybe some additional padding could be made for the entire tray/points of contact with a laptop or other gear

The Crane stand looks good, the weld points could maybe be smoothed out a lil more and some additional powder coat/paint added - but in a way i liked the ruggedness cause it looks like someone has hand tailored and welded the Crane just for me

First glance: Its a little bit bigger than i had imagined and from what i gathered in the videos/pics. Its not really a downside except if maybe your in a tight place or your booth doesn't have a lot of room - picture that you need about a 12in circle or the size of a slipmat to properly fit the Crane

The cam levers could maybe be smaller, unless your a complete pussy and need the leverage to close it properly. The option to anodize them would be sweet, for a nominal fee of course.

Ill probably have more to write about once i take it out to a Gig and put it through the ringer

Hope that my criticism is taken constructively and not negatively - these are just my opinions and what i gathered in about 20mins playing around with it - some real world testing is in order so i can properly make my assumptions

All in all - damn sweet deal, esp if you got in early and locked down the special price, im happy and satisfied with my purchase. This stand is incredibly stable and looks like it could cradle a V dub. Factor in top notch customer service, the fact that this stand is accurately priced (when you get your hands on it and see), and leagues above "the other stands" currently on the market - oh and the constant improvements being made - i dont think you can go wrong or invest your hard earned cash any more wisely, for a dj product.

I usually put it partially underneath my gear--the foot lays really easily under a turntable.

Good point on the scratch point for the MBP. We recommend using little rubber tabs that you can find pretty much anywhere. We would include them, but, not everyone has a MBP and we hate to see rubbers and plastics go to the land fill. We have some that we have tested and work great. Hit us up, they are free.

How will the Clamp, clamp? - from the diagram it looks like a permanent install with some screws or something

the pic I had up their is purposely teasing, we haven't completely finalized everything yet.

Trying to figure out if we should use C clamps (like the other guys) or something completely innovative (actually innovative).

The way we have it now, it basically works like a vis-grip. You cinch it down, then flip a switch and it's locked. The thing we are going for there is not damaging nicer tables.

There is a part missing on that drawing.

if you use a vice grip like system it could be adjustable for different widths of tables, coffins ect the key would be to make them long enough so there is less pressure on whatever its fighting against(table coffin, gravity, and the damaging problem could be fixed with two equal, flat, parallel when closed grips with a permanent (not slip on rubber, maybe plasti dipped grips)

It is designed to have the same sort of features as a generic c clamp, just easier to use. So, anything that your whosiwhatit stand's clamp does, this will do better.

Clearance is no problem and it will protrude the same as the other guys.

the problem i see with c clamps is that the point where the clamp meets with table/coffin is too small, all the pressure is focused on a small spot and would get dispersed with flat (more surface area squares or rectangles, i have dont some wood work and dented wood with c clamps if the clap is moved or tightened too much

most of the stuff that is out there use two knobs. the knobs have a very small surface area on one side. Any movement will begin to literally cut into the wood. our goal here is to keep that from happening.

From the initial tests we have done, we figured it out.

First Night Out With The CRANE STAND Review

What a difference a couple inches makes. I've been using my mixer case to hold up my laptop and midi controllers. In the two spots I play very regularly, it worked good for me. I have a Road Ready 10 Inch Case. I would put my MBP on a cooling pad/USB hub on top of half of the case. The other half of the case help my Trigger Finger and nanoKontrol, all to the right of my decks. Before I did this, I had an Odessey L-Stand. I had to stop using that after it got bent so many time and the plastic adjustment knobs broke in half.

I added the Dicers to my set-up recently and that eliminated my need for the Trigger Finger. The nanoKontrol was small enough to fit in front of my cooling pad on half of the mixer case, so I was able to bring my comp closer to me and realized how awkward my previous configuration was. But it still wasn't quite right.

I saw the Crane Stand for the first time at the NAMM show and I knew right away that this was the next stand I was buying. I'll be honest and say that the price intimidated me and therefore I waited this long. I was also kind of hoping the C.Rane stand would drop and I could just get that to start with, instead of adding it on.

This last weekend I did two extra gigs. The first one was out in front of this warehouse in downtown for Arts Arcata. I set up on a 4 foot table and had no room for my laptop. I had to use a barstool from the winery around the corner to set my mixer case on. I knew before I started playing that I was going to order my stand the next Monday. I was embarrased and also felt nervous about my lappy slipping off this barstool.

The next day I did a wedding about 2 hours into the woods from my house, epic heart of Humboldt County. I was camping afterward because I didn't want to drive these roads at 2AM when I would be done. So I get out there to set-up, brought my CDJs instead of 1200s which are in a coffin. I didn't have my mixer case to prop up my laptop...FAIL on me. So I proceed to DJ for the next 6 hours hunched over. Yuck. It was an amazing gig but my back hurt all the next day further convincing me that I needed the stand.

I ordered Monday and got it Thursday. $139 with a promo code and I have no regrets. Right off the bat, I set up last night and was able to put the computer exactly where I wanted and angle it toward me a little. One thing I didn't account for was that I can now angle the keyboard toward me a little. This makes a huge difference in seeing the keys. I was already leaning, but having to look straight down exaggerates that even more. Now I see all the keys and don't have to angle my neck so much to look at the screen.

Another thing I didn't count on was there is no room for my cooling pad which is also my USB hub so I can use Dicers and the nano at the same time. I will probably get a different hub soon but for now I just set the pad below the stand. I'll have to do some further checking but my laptop actually felt cooler at the end of the night compared to sitting on the flat stand.

The only other thing I can say is that set-up and breakdown is so fast that I didn't really even see the stand too much. It does it's job and doesn't slow me down at all. My gig tonight is going to be tricky because I don't have the same room as my Thurs/Sat gig. I think the clamp they have coming out is going to be the trick for me.

Last thing I have to say about my whole experience with the Crane Stand so far is that the customer service goes far beyond anything I expected. Just like Rane and Serato each as companies I know that this is created by people who want to make the craft I take part in better. The vision comes though and I am proud to support that. For instance, I asked Garret about whether they will come in different colors. He got on skype with me and showed me and explained the anodizing process that makes it black. Basically this is the highest military grade anodizing that is used for missile parts. They tested over 30 different processes to find the right one and each stand cost $20 for them to anodize. The man cares!!!

I want to see this company flourish, so I'm going to do everything I can to see a Crane Stand under every DJs laptop. Including buying a few more for my CDJs in the studio and projector at gigs. Oh, and while you can get them in any color you want as long as it's black, there is a limited edition Crane Stand coming out and from what I have been told it is going to be sick!!!! There are few Easter Eggs floating around...

@ theCraneStand - just one question - the only way the leg or the tray would move is if you put excessive force and try to adjust without undoing the levers, right?

DO NOT ADJUST THE UNIT WITHOUT UNDOING THE LEVERS. It will void your warranty and may cause damage to the cam mating system (NH). This is incredibly important! The cam mating system (NH) is what makes the product work. That is also one of the reasons the product is sooo expensive. If that surface is off by the smallest fraction of a millimeter the entire product is garbage. The lathe tooling that we need to make this part and the bits themselves are so finite and precise that NASA would be all, "DAAAAAMMMMNNN!" It is also this surface that requires the military spec anodizing. Without the anodizing, just one forced adjustment and the aluminium would tear and snowball (NH) inside the mechanism.

I cannot stress this enough, read your owners manual. I spent the time to write it, I recommend you spend the time to breeze through it. Luckily, The Crane Stand is pretty much bullet proof (we will prove that this week on the v blog) and I could really relax a little. HAHA Don't worry many. It was a B stock. We are super anal (NH) about releasing anything that is not perfect. We pull anything that doesn't meet very strict guidelines. Actually, if you look close, you will notice that the crane in the video has an super long leg.

All the parts on that crane were defective. AND IT STILL HELD UP! Take that other guys!

If after you set the stand, to test if you need to add more tension, all you would need to do is lightly tap the stand with your hand to see if any of it moves? This itself wouldn't ruin any of the parts, right?

Totally misread that then. You are right. Test it with some extra pressure. In all reality, you can adjust the unit with pressure applied, it is just not at all recommended. The heavier the laptop or component, the more tightening pressure you add.

Forgive the abrupt answer earlier, we had pretty big issues with this before we figured out the anodizing. However, as you can see in our latest video blog Watchwww.youtube.com we now have a relatively bullet-proof laptop stand.

been using the Sub Tray for the past few weeks now and i have to say that is pure quality as well. to be honest i thought the tray would be a bit flimsy given how it just slides on the legs without anything else to secure it. however, once you get it positioned the way it is supposed to be it is actually very stable. it's pretty obvious that the guys up at Crane headquarters have put a lot of thought into it as well.
