Try the nano control if your not using a midi capable mixer it will give you a little more control than just the 12 pads on the nano

oh that wan't meant to sound like it was "stable eith a 57."
i meant they are all stable and i just happen to use a 57.
they are all stable. i mean i can't imagine them crashing ssl or vsl unless there was a driver conflict or something.

novation launchpad looks AMAZING and makes me want to buy it just for all the colored lights (jp :P)
but lookes hella confusing
for video all you need to control the video and audio (with out keyboed) would be a nano pad midi controller or a midi mixer?
i have a stanton da scratch. which is midi. If i could go back i would return it because its not worth the 250 i payed for it when it first came out and all the midi stuff doesnt work all that great
besides the novation launchpad, oxygen 8, nano control and axium 25 are there any others out there?
and dj kreate whats wrong with your nano pad? just not enough there to work with or what

Im running SL1 with my Pioneer 909 which isnt MIDI compatible... Whats a decent small controller for controlling the video fade, by either a fader or knob, that still had pads as well for vid cue points??? The Simpler and smaler the better! Any suggestions??

I had been using the trigger finger when this was originally posted but have since moved to the Traktor X1.

the smallest, cheapest with a LOT of control surface is the korg nanokontrol.
those trigger fingers are just sooo big.

how have you mapped the X1...been considering it for a while but I haven't seen how others actually use it for VSL

I have the top part of the X1 mapped left and right for video effects and the bottom part for loops, track selection, cue points and a few other things. I don't use effects because I have the DJM-800 but if I did I have an entire second page that works exactly like the first page I could use.
I have my crossfader of the DJM-800 mapped for my video crossfader. To be honest it's very rare that I ever touch my computer keyboard anymore during a show outside of searching for a song.

I use Pioneer DVJ-X1's for my players so all I use them for is to run the timecode basically. For everything else I use the X1 and the DJM-800

Hope this helped you out. The only thing that you really need to make your life easier, IMO, is a mixer that has midi so you can map the crossfader to work with audio AND video.
I looked back and I don't think you mentioned what mixer you have.

couldn't you actually assign 30?
and actually that first statement makes no sense..."you can only assign 10 points total."
points total?? do you mean cue points? if so how many do you need? you only need 5 per side. the other 20 empty slots can be set to whatever you like.
personally, i just do now have time to go into the other scenes.

a last advise: if I don't buy a DJM 800, can I use a good controller midi too for my video sl performance ? ... I don't know, for ex. a traktor s4 controller... or something like that ??

Philo,
Of course you can...basically anything with a slider on it works great.
What makes the 800 (and other similar midi mixers) so great is that in most cases you can assign the audio and the video on the same crossfader. this makes any scratches sync with the video and also, and more importantly, allows you audio and video to crossfade at the same time. This ability is really noticeable when you watch someone mix audio and then...oh yea...the video mixer several seconds after that.
Hope this helps!

lol yea the 800 will serve you well. As to the midi interface I use a midisport Uno others have had issues with it but not me. I now use the midisport 2 x 2 anniversary edition as I have a few extra midi devices...never had an issue with that one either.
I am sure that if others have good experiences with the cakewalk that it should work fine.
Pics when you get it all :)

No, the first group (cue points group) the main group is used to set and trigger cues and the second mode for it is used to delete cues so you cannot set user mappings for that group.

I've just talked about my "desired" devices with my tecnical and service support for my club, and for him it would be better use a Rane TTM57SL Mixer than a DJM 800 for the sound quality ... (I have a djm 600 now and I know this problem of pioneer: amplify the output of the lines)...
The point is that I already have a SL3 ... and if I buy a Rane... I spend too much and I make a ... doble ! haha
...sure I will decide soon...

Lots of debate about the differences in sound quality in the Rane / Pioneer mixers. I will say that there is a world of difference between the DJM 600 and the DJM 800 in terms of sound quality. If you haven't heard a DJM-800 you really should. If possible on the same system you will be playing on. Personally I have listened to and played on both in many different club environments...I prefer the DJM 800.
But you are right, having the SL3 and getting a Rane mixer really doesn't do you any good.

I have to agree the Pioneer sound quality is way better then the rane. I actually run my 57 to my Pioneer 500 if I need to split the sound to run my subs and crossover but notice a huge difference in sound quality if Im in a smaller venue where I cant set up my subs and im just running mains out of my rane. I know the Pioneers have preamped out puts which make a deference.

as far as sound quality from what i can tell, the 57 is not as good as a pioneer.
that is just the 57 tho.
there are ranes out there that have much better sound than a pioneer.
i have had residencies at a few places that had pioneers for one reason or another w had to pull it out and put an rane in. HUGE difference.
old ranes sound amazing.

Not a huge fan of the 500 or 600 output after using them both for a while. The Rane mp44 and even the mp24 have really good sound quality. But the 800 and 1000 sound really clean.

This would imply that the Pioneer is "upgrading" the sound coming from your Rane....

Hi guys!
For those out there using sl3 + videosl. wich midi controller are you using and how happy are you with it?
for info, i dont have a midi mixer, is a djm-600 (so no midi)
i was wondering what pad should i buy in order to asign (if possible)
- audio and video to the same crossfader
- be able to browse the list of my music
- be able to brows the list of the video effects
well... it will be simpler to say: in order to avoid touching the computer as much as possible ;-)
ps, i cannot buy a ttm 57, is not what fit my needs, as i change clubs very often, and i am mixing with others djs during the sets. etc
thanks for the advice!

note.
i got in the sound quality 800 vs 57 for the last month with my boy.
finally this week we got together and did some comparisons.
heres what we agreed on.
for vinyl and cd the 57 sounds better, it puts outs a warmer, fuller sound.
(the 800 seemed tinny, and maetalic sounding)
for 320 mp3 the 800 sounded better, almost more powerfull.
almost like a loudness feature was engaged in your home stereo
where the 57 seemed to put out a flat, not so punchy sound.
when I talk to sound techs they all seem to like the rane products over the pioneer
for that exact reason...a flat (not hot) output.
but I think to alot of our ears we like hearing "that" sound that the 800 puts out.

I'm loving the piece since I bought it.It makes my life easier giving me all the options I needed with so much less to carry.I have one little problem which is not enough buttons and knobs to control everything in SSL.I had to midimap the essential functions in the deck and video areas leaving the FX behind.I wish the controller had different midi pages at least two.In regard to when it was built though that doesn't refrain me from awarding 4 star to Vestax.Another down is the fact that the inputs cannot be used for timecode control.

You shoulda got a nano control. it has 9 slides, 9 knobs 18 buttons and 6 extra buttons to add extra hot cue's that u can program as well

I bought the VCM 100 strictly for Video SL because I'm currently using HC1000S for all other functions in SSL. I'll be using both controllers for SSL at the same time during my gigs.I don't mess with 57SL because the sound card is not good enough for me.I stick to 24 bit/96khz interface only.
