So, if true, why should you buy scratchlive anymore? or why wouldn't the specific controllers like the 57 and others work with scratchlive.

Also has Itch been created so that Serato can "side-step" their agreement with Rane?

why be concerned about scratchlive?..it's a better program than itch imo. plus, it has many more followers. it's practically the industry standard. it's basic and stable.
pretty sure ssl will be around for awhile.

I believe that...however I have to say that for small bar (less than 150 people) or other small mobile gigs a device like a 57 would be nice. Since it doesn't work with scratchlive, that makes itch a more all around dual purpose program...especially with the addition of video to it.

I am a n00b on here but I will chime in with my opinion. I just got a new weekly that has me evaluating my current setup.
In Philly we have a full setup with nice Allen Heath Xone:92, SL1, 1200s, CDjs, and Mackie or EAW sound depending on venue.
I just moved out to Central PA and am doing a night on my own for the first time. I am probably more open to using just a controller than anyone of my partners... And I looked into all of them, and ITCH real hard over the last few weeks.
If I go with just using my 1200s, Vestax mixer, SL1, then I needed to get a coffin. Ones with laptop shelves, wheels etc looking at like 3 bills. I need backup needles and a few other things to fresh up my gear and I am looking at like $500 all said and done... So I started thinking maybe a controller would make more sense - less to carry, less to hookup, etc.
Then I started realizing all the limitations. The Vestax is dope, and price wise started to make sense.. but has no ins for other decks. IMHO the only one worth even looking at for me was the Allen Heath XOne:DX which hasnt even dropped yet. That would let me use external decks for guests (I still play with a lot of ppl that use Vinyl, or CDs). It would free me up tho for house parties etc to just bring the DX. Price is a factor, but I am not one to throw away money on gear that will be outdated soon.
Then I started thinking about it, and I really think that just getting a nice coffin really is the best of all worlds because I can change out components like I have always done. I can also spend that extra $ on getting a nice projector instead and start adding some Video SL into my sets.
The controllers and ITCH seemed cool for about 3 days to me. I don't see SSL going anywhere anytime soon. I *may* upgrade my mixer to the DX in another year or something once the price drops but that would be more to have the built in efx etc...

I believe you answered your own question in the previous 150 people post. With Itch they can hit a bigger market. Why wouldn't they want to do that after they already have one market locked down?
I'm am one person awaiting to use itch with vsl. I really like the vestax controller to play around with. Its just cool to have on the desk.

if i understand it correctly, and forgive me generalization Scratch is more target towards hip hop, while ITCH is more geared towards mashups/house/techno/trance or people that want to be using multiple decks/looping/midi more effectively in their sets. (and from what I have read, this puts Serato in line with Traktor - again please dont hate on me, i am just generalizing from a few weeks of research) For those people I think the controllers make more sense but for myself I think that all those features are things I would hardly if ever use and SSL makes more sense for me... I think Marx has it right, they are serving 2 different markets. And I agree the Vestax is dope... If it had 2 seperate line ins I would own it already.

Incorrect...scratchlive works with traditional turntable/CDJ and itch is all about dedicated controllers...has nothing to do with the genre or music it just a matter of your what you want to spin with

I am really not sure why this thread was started. He does not guarantee that Itch will support vsl...just that it's an educated guess. I don't put that much in faith in Silvio's statements at this time anyway. He was stating that the DN-X1700 would be Traktor Scratch compatible when released and it still hasn't happened.

Justin are you worried about losing your gigs to a newbie video dj or something? Who cares if Itch gets video? It's not cheaper then buying an SL-1 and you can do video with that.

Rebelguy,
To your first point, the guy works for Denon and represents that point of view. I assume that he has more information than I do and when he says that Itch is getting video, that's Denon talking, not him.
As to losing gigs, I have no issues with that part of things. I actually wish that some of these controllers would work with scratchlive...for my smaller gigs. IMO Serato had to break away from the agreement with Rane to achieve more revenue...Itch was the answer for that. Until this agreement is either redone or expires I am afraid that the only equipment we will see for Scratchlive is the mixer from Rane and the SL box....meanwhile Itch gets the newer equipment with not too much of a difference in features.

So it may or may not be true.

ok so i have to chime back in... cause like i said im a n00b and i have dumb questions. anyway after playing with the VSL demo with my SSL1 box tonight, all I could do is crossfade with the arrow keys right?
what I am wondering is, even after i buy it, since i have a standard mixer and use SSL1, i know i can mix the audio, but do i have to manually crossfade the video?
I am guessing that is what the midi map stuff is for... now the reason I asked this here, is because I am about to have to eat my words on my previous post. Because I am guessing that VSL with ITCH would mean all the controllers can actually 'mix' the video in real time?
Or am I just guessing wrong, and when I buy VSL and use it, my videos will actually 'mix' visually. Maybe the demo doesnt really let you see what you can do besides the output?
Sorry for the dumb questions, I am just trying to figure this all out. And feel free to yell at me if I should have started a new thread for this question.

for video, the TTM57 will always be the premier option until a new Rane SL mixer comes along. Pioneer 800 is a close second.
At least with the 57 you can do a gig with no TTs or CDJs, add a Midi controller and you can pretty much get any job done. I've done weddings with a trigger finger and the 57, it's fun.
even if Itch did add video (one day) there is no 1 to 1 controls for it, it would require an external device like the new effects units that vestax and numark just put out

Thanks for your advice everybody... Seems like I am stuck between worlds.
The only one of the controllers that I can see as a worthwhile investment is the Xone:DX like I had mentioned above... But since it is ITCH only and not SSL, it kind of defeats the purpose for me if it doesnt include VSL...
So for that reason alone, if they did add video to ITCH, it would make me consider one of those controllers.
Other than that would the Xone:92 mixer work? We have that already in Philly, I have never tried playing with Midi with it... I definitely can hardly use a Pioneer after a few years with the A+H. I like the Rane mixer but the A+H has so much better sound quality, and more options when running a live PA with artists etc.

ok one last question i swear. has anyone dug deep enough into the Xone:DX to know if you can midi map the crossfader to work with VSL in SSL? I know its not out yet but maybe someone got to play with it. I know its not the intended use, but since it has the 4 regular ins, couldn't that work?
when looking at this as an investment, the Xone:DX is a few bills cheaper than the 92. Its also the same price as the TTM, and has the option of more inputs, plus It would also give me the flexibility to use ITCH in the future if I want to, and I might do that to use the DX as a standalone box kind of like Dub Cowboy mentioned he does with the TTM (and the DX has the built in controllers so u dont need anything else). If/when VSL does work with itch, this becomes even more viable solution.
If it can work that way, I think the DX with my SSL1, 1200s, and the fader mapped to VSL would be an ideal solution. A bonus is the 4th channel they give you for the mic that you can apply the built in efx to, no need to run a seperate efx for the mic input.

If it works as a regular midi device then I see know reason why it wouldn't but you would still need to hook the SL-1 or 3 up. Does the DX even function like a regular mixer?

Yes, I do already have the SL1 so that is fine... And from what I see the DX still can function like a regular mixer, which is why I thought it a better long term investment.
However from watching the videos that A+H has online, it seems like the 92, where 2 of the channels are dedicated to efx and mic. So u have 2 center channels for mixing still, but yes it has 4 external inputs.
Like I said I know its not its intended use, but literally its the same price as the TTM.
After reasoning with some other bredrin about it, the one thing the TTM has in its favor is one touch recording. Not that this works for VSL, but for audio itself.
Speaking of that, and I will start a new thread so please reply to it there, but I am wondering how you all are handling recording the output of your VSL sessions...

The current ITCH products do not support Video-SL.
What does that say to us?
It's funny how you tried to "lock" Silvio down by mentioning that he has leaked information.
