This is going to sell like hotcakes... $250 with soundcard and software included is best bang for the bucks, ever. Now the VCI-300 seems a bit overpriced, though.
Apple store exclusive, for now.

it is not a vci-300 :)
'Djs looking for a good controller may consider using this as a lower cost alternative to the vci-100/300 but keep in mind you certainly get what you pay for. The jog wheel, faders, buttons, knobs and plastic case all reflect the price and are certainly much more consumer quality than pro. '
'Vestax refined the concept of an all-in-one controller with the VCI-300 and now created Spin, an basic entry level version of both controllers with less expensive parts.'

I disagree. This statement below taken from that link tells it all.

Sure it is not a VCI-300... but at 1/3 of the price is a very appealing toy for casual "iTunes" DJs.

I think it's a great buy for a newbie however. But you need to own a Mac and that expense wouldn't make sense just to have this. For those who already own a Mac, yeh great, but it will sell even better when it covers both Mac and PC segments.

Yeah... I see a great Christmas for Vestax. I'd buy shares, if only it was a public company.
yeah it's a toy, but I think it's enough for small parties or bars... at least. I'd like to test it.

You know what kraal?
For some reasons I feel like I want one too, and it makes no sense as I already own a VCI-300, a VCI-100 and a NS7. They've nailed it.

I'm getting one for a back up to the NS7. I like the VCI-300 but it's just to expensive.
Plus it looks really slick. Just hope the platters are good.

Haha! I know what you mean Kraal:) I have the new Djay and its not that bad. I'm hoping that Spin can be used with other softwares as well. But as a hit play and leave solution when I step out to get a drink, mingle or go pee pee thats really what it will be used for. Not for the actual mixing and filling the dance floor if you know what I mean. I won't buy until I actually see it in person and play with it or scratchworx gives it a thumbs up. But hey for $250 it's worth a look at. NSFX must come first though lol.

I believe with the release of DJ Hero the DJ Controller is posed to become the next guitar.
Every kid is going to want to be a DJ now.
Of course music hunting and selection cant be taught in a game -but the technical skills will be learned at a fundamental level.
I do think the Vestax Spin will sell like hotcakes because it's really positioned against Numark's "Total Computer DJ In A Box". It's not truly Pro level but substantially superior to a "toy".
I think just like with guitars we will soon see a wide range of controllers at the entry level price point of under $300.
The Vestax Spin looks a little less like a toy than the Total Control -however it does appear to have a more limited functionality. Then again it is less expensive than than the TCDINA package.
This is an exciting looking entry level controller.
:-)

I want those platters on my vci-300... lets get a petition going to sell the platters separately. :)
Cerla, awesome pic.
this thing looks pretty cool... however, a little cheap. anyway, i hope this doesnt lead to established DJs losing gigs to kids with this equipment undercutting on price.

kraal - This was not aimed at your comment, but more for those DJs who think they can use this in there business like it's a pro unit. If it does not have heavy duty parts then in my book it is a toy. I would tear this thing up even in my studio at home. The concept of this would have been awesome if this was an entry level bare-bones pro-grade piece of kit.

@breakermixer, i have the same feeling when it comes to programming, before the .net era you had to have talent and knowledge to be able to produce efficient and reliable code, nowadays even my son who has no knowledge at all on how to program can build something that works...is he a programmer? not at all... he lacks the knowledge to be one...
same applies here imho, i'll never be as good as anyone here around, but thats fine be me cause i don't need to make a living out of it
bottom line, true talent will always survive :)
and i envy you guys :)

rubbish... the thing about technology and the information is simple. I can't remember the exact quote but there is a universal theory that states once on person achieves something anyone can. look at tony hawk and the 900. that trick was never done till he did it now it is a staple in a lot of skaters bag of tricks.

imho there is more to dj-ing than just being technical, that's what i meant by talent, you gotta have the feel for it
and while i have a certain degree of feel for it :) i have seen things here that amazes me..
maybe i'm getting to old :)
and i'm enjoying it very much ...

marcA i understand what you are saying. but i have a different view point on 'talent' i make my living djing and art. mainly art. People say man i wish i had your talent when they look at my drawings and it reminds me of the story from a famous violinist. a young lady say him play and said ' i would give my life to play like you.' and the violinist responding saying 'lady i already have.'
talent is not something that just shows up you need to work at it and sacrafice a lot for it.
that being said i think the spin is a great tool to get new people in the field of djing. a way to see if this is what they want to devote to.

2. The best overall performance/creativity
3. Level of difficulty and margin for error is outrageous.
4. The total embodiment of Turntablism.

I agree with MOST of the points in this thread but just want to add to the discussion...Djing back in the day used to be different which has been established already but what i think is important is to note the fact that during the 'old school' era of djing we used the tools we had at our disposal to the best of our abilities (technical) and using our creativity....now technology had come a long way but that rule still applies today
Sure it is easier to do a lot of the old school technics (no pun) but there a lot more NEW stuff to play with ex. Midi Controllers, Video Mixing, etc so the focus should not be on the equipment but HOW you use it!

Also back in the day everybody want to be a DJ (which is still true today) but only a small percentage of us where willing to put in time and had the passion and talent for it...so most of the dj's treated it as hobby or fad but some for some of us it became a part of us
ex basketball - many have played but very few great ones compared to number that have played the game - Kobe, Jordan
Skateboarding - same thing - Tony Hawk
Djing - same thing - DJ Ace (LOL)
