TTM57: Use Kill Buttons to select EFX / Cue Buttons

nik39 7:09 PM - 15 August, 2006
I have already post a suggestion to make the kill buttons available for user assignments. In this suggestion I want to show a real valueable use case for additional buttons which can be assigned:

So what I usually do in the FX panel is:
1. select the insert point to PGM1 or PGM2
2. turn the EFX on/off
3. change BPM-tracking to either deck1 or deck2.

I rarely use all the other stuff, like feedback, etc. Once I adjusted the feedback of the echo and changed the multiplier I dont change those values.

But still I have to switch forth and back between the MVP-group (group1) and the EFX group, which is just a pain.

My suggestion
...would be to have following functions assignable to the kill switches (which I dont use, if I need them I will use the gain knobs):

...............|............PGM1.............|.....PGM2
--------------+---------------------------------+---------------------

high-kill:.|...turn EFX1 on PGM1..|...turn EFX1 on PGM2
mid-kill:..|...turn EFX2 on PGM1..|...turn EFX2 on PGM2
low-kill:..|.................?...............|..............? ..............

It would be like a matrix (2 columns, 3 rows): 1st column is for PGM1, 2nd column for PGM2, 1st row (high kill) is for the EFX1, 2nd row (mid kill) is for EFX2, 3rd row... I havent decided yet.

----------------------------------------------------------

I dont use the kill switches, and by using them as cue points (or any other function) I could free up space on my most used group to include other functions. This function could be enable whenever the SSL software is attached leaving the standalone mixer mappings intact.

----------------------------------------------------------

Thoughts, comments?

i like it. it would be a similar setup as to how the fx are on the pio 909 too.

Another very good suggestion. This WILL make the effects a little bit friendlier.
(and yes - I have never found a use for those kill buttons)

I use the bass kill switch but I very rarely use the others, I think the option to assign any other function to some or all of them (not just efx related) would be very useful.

Add to that the channel swap button.

yes sounds like a great idea!!

example
B1 button would switch the kill switches of the selected deck to effect buttons.

b2 would switch the effect buttons back to kill switches..

sounds like a idea!!

This could be cool -- personally I'd like the option to use them in tandem with the joystick, in much the same way you set cues now with the stick.

Sounds like a cool idea...as long as the button assignments follow the user's computer, and are not saved into the mixer's firmware.

Otherwise it would add chaos to DJ booths with 57's installed.

All customization that you do on the TTM-57 does follow the users computer unless you decide to save it to the mixer

Simply making them midi assignable would be great, personally I'd have them set up as the first 3 cue-points on each track freeing up the B1 -B6 buttons for other things such as effects (I guess this is kind of the inverse of what has already been talked about). Either way would be good though becasue it is really annoying to swap between being able to use effects and flick through cue points.

Great Idea.

I'd also like to see buttons that allow you to do turn on effects and switch button groups at the same time (i.e. hit a kill switch, turn on effect 1 on program 1 and move me to the effect group 6 - and then do the reverse when I turn the kill switch off).

My biggest beef about the effects is having to switch button groups back and forth to go from cue points to effect settings. I know the flex-effect button trick but I still like to use the filter sweep knobs in the effect section when doing filter effects.
