The kill button got stuck? I had problems with the b1-b6 buttons (we all know they fuck up) but a little bit of that spray stuff worked. I wonder if the same would work for this button. Looks like it wouldnt if it got stuck in the on position. But try it. Bring your mixer tomorrow. I have that deoxit stuff with me at all times. :)
sixxx 4:36 AM - 12 July, 2009
Well, it's in my DJ bag... I don't just carry deoxit wherever. lol
SiRocket 5:07 AM - 12 July, 2009

Dope!!!

You'll get an answer from Rane when they're back during business hours. lol

Btw, I had a bad experience with my mixer too. Nothing bad though... but 1 hour after I got it and started using it, the fader started "bleeding". We all know faders don't bleed but rather the sensor was off. But, I thought to myself "an hour after using it?, come on!" But, I readjusted it and haven't had a problem since.

I did have a problem with the buttons and a quick fix with the deoxit it did the trick. I think the problem is or could be rather, dust and crap getting inside those buttons that makes them get stuck.
SiRocket 8:06 AM - 12 July, 2009
lol... wish that did the trick..... but illl keep this going...........................
SiRocket 8:11 AM - 12 July, 2009

Deoxit Fader lube/ D100 have always brought the buttons back to life for every 57 i cleaned. I'll bring it by kris's house today if you want to bring your 57 over.
Kedar 7:06 PM - 12 July, 2009
i was at a show once and my 57 froze mid show.. like froze. no buttons would respond, no faders did anything, and there was power to the unit and all. completely un-provoked too!

had to power cycle the mixer with a crowded dance floor

:(
sacrilicious 12:44 AM - 13 July, 2009
Yeah I had to power cycle the other night but it was fortunately at home.

YEP! they shouldn't stick.. especially after like 6 months.

i've tried "CONTACT CLEANER", it works for a while then its the same shit/different time.
DJMark 4:18 AM - 13 July, 2009
Oddly enough, just today I had to walk a DJ through a power-cycle procedure for an installed TTM-57. It had what was described as never ending delay on the left side that couldn't be gotten rid of any normal way (and none of the B1-B6 buttons were lit), so I had to have the DJ fade down the music and power off/back on. That cleared the problem.

First such issue I've seen or heard of in over three years of using TTM57's, and I certainly hope this won't turn into a trend.
DJ TOGTFO 8:35 AM - 13 July, 2009
I still have yet to see a Rane 57 at a club where all of the buttons work. I have been a proud owner of a TTM 56 for almost 5-6 years now and was about to buy a 57 last year. I just don't trust the mixer, its a great mixer when its working, even tho the effects are garbage, but I just cant afford to waste money and time on a mixer that needs to be sent in for repairs constantly. Rane really needs to address the issues with the buttons and the EQ knobs.
djchrischip 9:19 AM - 13 July, 2009

Got any setting you want to share?

I own the first generation 57 with the concave buttons. Never had a problem with them. I used tech support for the first time because of a loose usb port but everything else was perfect. I work with the second gen 57 at all the clubs I do in my area and all of them have had broken buttons and headphone cue faders at least once. Most of them twice though.
djchrischip 4:34 AM - 15 July, 2009
ya sure, i def don't mind sharing....

not near my 57 nor computer (gigging 1) but the key is to remember this...

set the right time modifier...

for echo x1, for flanger x16,
pretty much 70% wet dry mix
djchrischip 4:34 AM - 15 July, 2009
thats from memory...
on echo 0.1 ms delay
midnightcharger2 5:11 AM - 15 July, 2009
I have the 57SL and it works like a charm for over 6 months, I recently did get tired of the reverse buttons near the up faders. I had a situation happen 2 times where in the heat of things, I must have placed my palm on one of the buttons and reversed (usually the right upfader) Un-nerving to have your sound cut out immediately with a full crowd.

It was time to do something about this. I removed the bottom faceplate and popped off the reverse channel buttons. Then I took some sand paper (800-1000 grit works fine) and sanded the bottom of the buttons I took off. If shaved down just a hair the buttons sit recessed below the faceplate in their respective holes where you can still push them with your finger-tip easily but you can run your palm over it with out fear.

I trial tested the button fit about 5 times for each button after each round of sanding. Its better to take of less each time then to take off too much from the bottom. If too much is taken off it may be a bit more difficult to press the buttons as they would be recessed too far. Overall it took about 10minutes to complete the project. I am unsure if this would void your warranty (which I cannot see as its just 3 plastic buttons that can be replaced easily but check with RANE if your concerened with your warranty before preforming any modifications.

Other than that its a beautiful mixer and all that used it, want to get themselves one.
Niro 8:35 AM - 15 July, 2009
I think any mixer with buttons or extras other than a fader and EQ knobs will have problems if not looked after. The 56 is a tank, because it is a basic mixer with no bells and whistles. The 57's that I've played on that was working 100% usually had a dedicated sound guy and he took care of the equipment. I usually take my 57 with me to all me gigs, because I don't trust the current mixer at the club, not just the 57.

You don't even know how many pioneers I've come played on, where the monitor knob, crossfader, upfader doesn't work.

All equipment needs maintenance, keeping it clean and lubed will make it last forever. It's like buying an expensive car and expecting to run perfectly without any maintenance.
frost-9 8:54 AM - 15 July, 2009
wait.. what are we complaining about here? 57's sitting at a club not working properly? (you can say the same for technics decks all across Manhattan)... or your own personal one crapping out? I very rarely use my own personal one, except to practice, so I doubt I can offer any insight.
dirtbag filthy 9:07 AM - 15 July, 2009

UFC fight (PAID) gig on a saturday, with the mixer crapping out. I can understand a b1 button or something (and thats pushing me being cool with it).. but a kill button on the mid eq that i NEVER have used, is another story on a mixer with a retail ofr 1699.99....

The mixer is under a year old, studio use the majority of the time, and this is a button that i have never used in the life of the mixer (the mid-eq kill).
nik39 10:58 PM - 15 July, 2009
I understand that you are pissed and you have every right to be pissed because we should expect top notch quality from Rane. However... one button... it can happen that this button craps out in one out of 10000 of mixers. Now if that happens for a larger number of people then we should have to worry, but until then it is an exception which can happen with a mathematical probability close to zero... but not equal to zero ;)
SiRocket 11:01 PM - 15 July, 2009
there should be a recall on the buttons as rane has admitted they suck... ;)
nik39 11:05 PM - 15 July, 2009
They suck? They have improved the buttons dramatically. Have you ever tried the v1 buttons? They *sucked*. They changed them ... and the new buttons are a lot better. They just need regular (every 6 months) maintenance. Use a bit of deoxid spray and they're good.
DJ_Famous88 11:33 PM - 15 July, 2009
where can i get that spray?
SiRocket 11:33 PM - 15 July, 2009
even buttons that aren't used? Try buying a new car, not using the spare tire for a year, and then when you pull it out for the first time, the treads are worn... WTF?
SiRocket 11:34 PM - 15 July, 2009
i can understand the high traffic buttons or buttons used on the regular, but when they aren't even touched or used and they stick, then how are these "improved"..... LOL.
nik39 11:36 PM - 15 July, 2009
Quote:

Ever heard of DOA? How do you explain that?

There are parts which can be faulty on arrival (or almost faulty as in this case). It is neither magic, nor mistery... it can happen. As said the probability is small but not zero - not impossible - it can happen - it will happen.
SiRocket 11:39 PM - 15 July, 2009
understood, but many people have had countless issues with version 1 and version 2 buttons...... DOA or not ;)
SiRocket 11:40 PM - 15 July, 2009
I have many years of experience in consumer electronics, but as any trustworthy company does, if there is a known issue you take care of it, not abandon it.
nik39 11:42 PM - 15 July, 2009
*Your* button issue is not the issue which is known to happen to a lot of users.
SiRocket 11:52 PM - 15 July, 2009
the buttons being intermittent and troublesome is like...... tires on a car, knobs on a radio... if one thing/part is a problematic issue on a highly popular retail product, it doesn't matter if the light doesn't work on the volume knob or if the potentiometer is not functioning right on it, if the knob is known to have excessive problems in one way or another, then fix it!

Scotch tape could fix moldings falling off as a recall, but would you rather have that or have a stronger better solution to it?

The issue here is these buttons have an excessive list of on and off function problems from more angles then your local pornstar.
nik39 12:04 AM - 16 July, 2009
*sigh* I think you don't want to understand.
SiRocket 12:08 AM - 16 July, 2009
nik.... its known the buttons have issues, its known that after wear and tear they worsen... the issue is that alot of 57's from the factory have a dudd b1 or b5 or b3 buttons that don't always register and such.... now that i have one more item to add to the list "A STICKING BUTTON".... that makes me different? it wasn't DOA because it didn't stick when i pulled the mixer out of the box a few months ago, but i have never touched the button once, and then out of the blue it sticks to give me an awesome AUTO TRANSFORM effect that i didn't want.....

I don't understand how you think its fair to the customer, especially when the mixer has light use!

The other issue is, where is a replacement version 3 or such of the buttons? are we going to be stuck with these crap buttons on the next Rane mixer? Or are they going to improve on the next model because they will be making a profit, not losing some cash on recalls ;).... Rane is a business, not your next door neighbor that lends you sugar.
nik39 12:24 AM - 16 July, 2009

I think you misunderstood me. As said, you have every right to be pissed, and I can understand that. But you should also understand that just because ONE (or a very very small percentage) single person has encountered *this* problem (I am not talking about flaky buttons in general, just *your* issue), then this does not mean that there is a mass production issue or something.

Quote:
The other issue is, where is a replacement version 3 or such of the buttons? are we going to be stuck with these crap buttons on the next Rane mixer?

That's a fair question. We should get better buttons. I agree.

Just keep in mind.. the v2 buttons are a *lot* better than the v1's... but still not perfect. I agree that it is not cool that you have to clean them regularily cause since Murphy's law... we all know that they will eff up in that one moment when it is very crucial for you ;)

Me personally I can deal with cleaning my buttons once in 6 months... its just like cleaning your faders. You shouldn't have to do it... but it is not a big issue for me personally. As said.. still... you shouldn't have to do it. :)

i honestly love it, love the convenience of J1 and J2 for instant doubles, effect bpm for flex efx, etc. but i just hate these effin buttons, i could deal with the intermittence but when i had a button stick out of no where that i don't even touch, thats when i was bugged.

I've beaten this topic to death so ill let it rest.... for video, and other stuff, i do <3 my 57 though.
dj vegas 8:04 AM - 16 July, 2009
Yea for video its sick! I dont under stand how pc keyboards work forever and never burn out? Why they dont use there type of keys i dont know?

I had the empath and moved to the 57. I have had some button problmes on the 57 so i stoped using them. I did not buy the 57 so i could not use the pc/mac i got it cause im lazy and hooking up my mixer is easer that fighting club mixers.

"This week"
I had my headphone fader break on me in the prime of the night that sucked!!!! But i could mix on 1 table that sucked but i still did good! I took it home and fixed it!
I have 2 57s so i used my backup just till i could test my quick fix.

The faders where sticking on my #2 57 so i got the deoxit info but it was still sticking. Soooo my dumbass took it apart when I did but put the wires in backwards and fried my mixer like that boom! So I was down to my first 57 and still nervous so i pulle faders from #1 and put them in #2 Long story short fried both mixers!!!!!! This was sunday I got in contact with rane shiped them off monday they fixed both mixers in one day and shiped them back to me next day air "They paid for the shiping back to me"! They will be here in the morning and i go on tomorrow night! That is crazy I love rane!

There has not been a mixer that has had the pressure to do soooo much like the 57!
Firm ware? for a mixer? I could go on and on! This is the first shot, just think when we are on the 59 or 60 we will think back on this mixer and how it changed the game forever! I will be there with bells on when it comes out knowing i can get my ish fixed in less that 3 days!

Just like anything in the world you can say bad thing and be right about most of the time. People may not agree with me at all about rane being the ish witch is fine. I just wanted to share my story for the people that have sent thing off to get fixed and got it back 6 months later! Again i cant spell for ish sorry in advance!

you'll never get RANE type customer service ANYWHERE....

so yeah something might happen at some gig sometime in your dj career...it's bound to.. ask any other dj if they have had these type problems

the difference is RANE will fix/and have your gear back to you in a day if need be

find me another company that treats their customers like that in pro audio

I use my 57 at 7 gigs a week, including a beach gig. Only problem I've had was a broken cue fader, sent in and fixed and sent back properly. Buttons are sticky, faders get slower too, but an easy fix. Just keep the liqour AWAY from your mixer !!!!!!

I have had my mixer for years gigging every weekend. Only small issue I had was the P1 and P2 knob acting funny to where when I bumped the mixer it started to scroll. Rane hooked me up and had my mixer back to me in 3 days after they got it. Best customer service for real!
