I've spun vinyl and still to this day to get rare shit you just cant get on mp3 or cd's (promos/Whitelables) Oldschool Joints also theres no way I travel with vinyl. When things got digitized I was one of the first who jumped at cdjs for that reason. Now I made the swtich back to Decks bc I miss Vinyl & LOVE SSL.

Real REAL DJs play for the love of the music. Real REAL DJs play for the love of entertaining the crowd. Real REAL DJs are open to all aspects of the art of mixing music.
Real REAL DJ's who are also producers embrace all the newest technology to make the songs, so why not embrace the new technology for DJing?
Real REAL DJs will still go out and by the original records because while they embrace the new, they respect and honor the original. (So don't worry, vinyl won't die out.)
Real REAL DJs want to expand what they are capable of doing while DJing. With less to carry, there is more you can bring to each event.
Real REAL DJs respect their fellow DJ, regardless of how they choose to play their music.
Real REAL DJs aren't afraid of competition. They love it, because real REAL DJs enjoy the challenge of coming up with new and fresh ways of mixing and manipulating the music.
Real REAL DJ's don't spend their time online bashing products that don't fit their view of what a "real DJ" should use. Real REAL DJs will spend that time perfecting their craft.
You don't sound like a real REAL DJ.

i am still trying to stop myself from fallin off my chair after that post by AnotherDan....you are so true.....Serato makes me feel like it's not digital it feels so old school....and i think that's what most dj's turn to serato for.....it is so.....errrrrr.....vinyl......that's why i use it... sad to say i bootleged FS and it worked fine for a couple songs and almost everytime it crashed after using for about 1 hour and i wasn't even using the vinyl yet.... i really liked it but just could not be convinced to buy it........so after reading 1000's of reviews of both systems scratch live was my pick and i have no regrets...."SOLID AS A ROCK"....the CPU usage is just out of this world.......the creators are wounderful, they really knew what they were about.....and i am sure who ever the creators are, there're probably some vinyl freaks too......

The reason I came onto this forum is because .. After a quarter of a century of spinning vinyl .. I fully switched to Serato in 2006 .. and I have used it on tour and at many many venues .. rocking crowds of up to +2500 party people .. I have also been live to air on the main radio station here in Montreal for over 10 years now Live to air from various clubs .. This last year I have been using SSL and I have been having major complaints about the sound quality of my files from the station, the club owners, the promoters and the other DJ (who uses cd's recorded at 320 bitrate) .. I'm not blaming Serato .. but .. I wanna know if anyone else has similar problems .. or answers .. The other DJ gets his house music from wherever .. all recorded at 320 bits .. and the places I get my Hip Hop RnB Regaae ect only send files at 192 bits . .. Max .. So after those other DJs go on and its my turn to spin .. the sound quality drops so much .. its a BIG difference ! What should I do ? It came to the point where I was at such a loss that I have left that club, the radio Live to Air and the station ! Thats a $40K loss per year ... I need answers .. and results ?! Any help or comments are welcome ..

Torq ?? Why .. it converts 192 bit files to 320 bits ?
At 3:37 AM 14 April 2008
DJ Groove, nothing can convert to a higher bitrate. Anything you use to convert from 192 to 320 will only result in something that sounds worse, not better. Once the audio information is lost it can't be recovered. The only way to get higher quality sound is to go back to the original source material (the CD or vinyl) and reencode from there.
Konix is joking when he says get Torq, by the way ;)

hehe .. ya thats what I thought .. I'll just have to accept defeat and move forward with better standards for my files .. eventually these files will be dated and all the new ones I aquire should (hopefully) be at 256 or 320 .. I'm curious .. what do other radio station djs do ? anybody here play on a major radio station ? what Bitrate do you play at and where do I get those higher bitrate tracks ? Thanks
At 3:57 AM 14 April 2008
PS .. I tried Torq .. another DJ had it .. although all these platforms are only as good as the djs that use them .. and I always tell DJs that whatever theyre used to is whats best for them .. I personally prefer SSL :)
At 3:59 AM 14 April 2008
I've had this problem especially with the Allen & Heath Xzone:92 mixers also cdjs are alot louder IMO..sometimes i think the engineers "set up" the system to handle cdjs.
I played at one spot and ALL the levels AND GAINS were up and still couldnt get a decent sound level...*shrugs shoulders*
