I have a VCI 300 coming in the mail, so I downloaded the Itch software and started building my crates. So far I have about 60,000 songs loaded (no problems), with about 180,000 more to go.

Now the Itch software is crashing whenever I try to drag new music to a crate. Am I loading too many songs into Itch? I've tried with 1.0.3 and 1.0.4.

I'm using Windows Vista Professional Edition, and my MP3's are on an external drive.

Here is the error detail I get from Windows:

It gets worse. I can't drag tracks around to other crates, or even move crates around in the left pane. Any changes I make to the library crashes Itch.

I have a strong feeling this is related to the number of songs I've loaded, but I'd like to hear from Serato or someone familiar with the software.

Hi Jeb - this is an exceptionally large number of files to be loading at one time, try loading no more than 2000 at a time. Itch may also be experiencing issues with corrupt files and it could also be trying to load videos and other files you may have.

Firstly, can you please give me some more specs for your laptop?

Now, let's simplify things. Have you checked the "show itunes library" option in the library area of the setup window? If so, uncheck it. Then ensure bluetooth and wireless are switched off and no other programmes are open.

You can also try to identify corrupted files by going into the ITCH folder on your computer. Then open the overviewbuilder.log with a text editor. Do this when you are building your overviews.

The overview-builder adds files to this log as they get built, so you can identify the last file to be built - and therefore the corrupt file - it will be the last one listed. The log file is cleared on each startup. If ITCH crashes, then most likely the last file in the overview builder log is the corrupt one, therefore you should delete it.

If you can get back to me with your computer type and specs, that will give me more information to help you further.

Cheers

Hi Aroha,
I'm not sure what you mean by only loading 2000 songs at a time. The songs are already in my crates and subcrates. When I start Itch it takes about a minute to read the library. Then it opens and is sluggish to navigate. Opening crates takes a few seconds. Then when I attempt to drag a track to the player, the Itch software crashes. This happens the moment I start dragging the file, before it even reaches the player. Trying to add new tracks to crates also crashes the program. Even trying to reorganize the crates (changing their order by dragging them) will crash the program.

Itunes is unchecked in setup. Wireless and bluetooth are off. I checked the log you mentioned and it is empty. I should also mention that I am able to run the "build overviews" task without crashing.

My system is a Lenovo laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.60 GHz processor running Windows Vista Business (version 6.0.6000, fully patched). It has 4GHz memory installed. It is connected to a 2T external harddrive. The laptop is connected to this drive via USB. As I mentioned before, I do not have the controller connected yet. My VCI-300 arrives in 2 days.

I hope you can help, I'm excited to get past these issues.

Also, when I exit Itch it takes a few minutes to actually close. It just hangs for a while on the exit screen before closing. Not a major issue but thought I'd mention it.

This laptop is pretty fast in general. Itch is the only program with these problems.

Hi Jeb,

Can you try and download Scratch LIVE here:
serato.com

It will run similar to ITCH (as an offline player) and read your ITCH library. I am curious to see if you experience the same problems with that?

I tried Scratch LIVE and had the same problem. It crashed whenever I tried to maintain the library.

My VCI-300 came today so I hooked that up. So far there are no issues loading tracks and playing them using the hardware. I'm just unable to manage the library at this point.

Still looking for a resolution on this.

Would you be able to upload the full crash dump for us please Jeb? Instructions on how to do this with Vista are here:
serato.com

I will ask one of the developers to check it out for us on Monday when they are back in the office.

Thanks :)

When I get to the details of the error I get this:

Problem signature

The instructions mention clicking "View temporary copy of these files", but that link doesn't exist. This was as far as I could get.

I'd be happy to give one of your developers remote access to this machine if they want to see it in action.

Hey Jeb, unfortunately our developers can't tell you much from reading your error log. Can you please upload a full crash dump to the website? Here's the link again: serato.com

Thanks
