I use two platforms for my set up.
It goes in this order.
On my PC workstation I do my editing, maintenance, etc for my video library.
I connect my external FW/800 drive and sync it up to my master copy on my PC workstation.
Still on my PC I open SSL/offline player and build overviews, adjust crates, etc.
I then connect it to my MAC and play live at my gigs.
When I follow the order of the steps again.. I notice this.
When I get to the step of building overviews on my NEW tracks I just added it wants to SCAN EVERYTHING I played the last time at a gig on my MAC.
WHY ?!?!
Still using the official latest versions of SSL/VSL and not the betas.

Please try the 1.8.3 beta version (on both computers) and see if it helps.
We changed a few things involving how the databaseV2 file loads and etc, which may help.
The beta can be found here -->> scratchlive.net

I would love to use the beta... but as everyone knows... it isn't recommended to use beta versions LIVE at your gigs.

Beta is working great for me AL. I had similar problems where I would constantly have to rescan the tags (didn't need to re-analyze as the data was there).

I will give it a try soon... just got a busy next few weeks and can't take a chance.

I'll take the chance. I've been having the same issues since day 1 and it's very annoying. I did a gig tonight and had to click/select all my vids in serato so the BPM came up. I've been getting to gigs an hour early just to make sure all is well with overviews/bpms. My next gig is next week so I got some time to mess around with it at home.

^I had the same problem with the bpms on the vids. 1.8.3 fixed the problem.

Hmm. Is this the same thing as overviews keep getting built for all the video files that were played at my last gig. very annoying.

yeah i would never use an external at a gig, except maybe to copy a file to my real hard drive.
serato ALWAYS re-builds overviews from all the videos i played last night. this annoys me and i dont know how to fix it.

I downloaded 1.8.3 with my 57 hooked up. Same problem. Actually seems like its worse. I built all my overviews last night. Woke up this morning they were all done. Selected all tracks again, threw in build overviews, and it started building the overviews all over again. Before I had a fighting chance with a 50-50 chance of keeping bpms or not. I'm really over this whole no BPM's, Cue points saving thing. Its absolutely vital for me to have my BPM's. Rocking a gig without bpm's is like take 80 crates to your gig without organizing your crated before you leave. This seems like one of the first issues that should have been fixed in the update. BPMS are important!

i have about ten vids put together in final cut pro and they take over an hour each to build overviews...... this is a problem because when i add new vids, OR for an unknown reason ,scratchlive rebuilds them.... so when i show for my gig on wednesday im assuming many of these overviews will be lost, obviously i dont have hours to rebuild them..... Maybe if i rebuild them over and over it will stop????LOL

If you open Serato and BPM's aren't there try clicking on track. Sometimes BPM will show up. This takes me about 30 minutes to do click 1500 vids.

Are you selecting all your music and then dragging and dropping them onto the build overview button?
If so, that forces SSL to rebuild all your overviews :)
Simply clicking on the build overview button (with out selecting or dragging anything to the button) will build overview for tracks that have not yet been analyzed.

Regarding BPMs not saving, this is something the 1.8.3 version should have fixed.
Make sure the bottom corner of the setup screen reads version 1.8.3.
If so, we'll need to do a little tweaking within the _ScratchLIVE_ folder on your external HDs.
Are you both (ancientyouth and Demon) using external drives?

OK, here's what ya gotta do to get the BPMs to actually stay put (once 1.8.3 is installed).
Close SSL
Open your external drive
Open the _ScratchLIVE_ folder
Rename the databaseV2 file to old_databaseV2
Restart SSL and allow your library and etc to load (this may take a bit because SSL is rebuilding your databaseV2 file).
One your library loads, go to the setup screen and click on the rescan ID3 tags button (within the library tab).
SSL should rescan all your tags and update the missing BPM info (if any).
Close SSL
Restart and everything should be gravy :)

I have dealt with this for the last 6 months. Finally fixed with 1.8.3 beta
I would have to doubleclick all vids or add them to the decks to see the bpms.
sucked horribly.

It worked. I was dragging files into rebuild overviews so it was forcing. All my BPM's are in place. Gonna try to set some cue points next and see if they stay.
Swift you dragging in overviews box or just hitting button?

i renamed the file in my ext. and updated to 1.8.3....... hasnt been rebuilding overviews (thank god), played last night with no flaws.... but i still cant figure out why it takes so long for my edited videos overviews to build .... like an hour each..... maybe because they have either no audio, or the audio stops before the video, i convert into a quicktime movie from final cut pro, and then into an mp4 using handbrake.... any thoughts???

I had that issue before as well. Seems like 1.8.3 fixed the problem. I've yet to play out with it so we'll see what happens this weekend.

Ambient videos (no audio) rendered to MP4 "with audio" take forever.... I figure VSL is scanning slowly looking for where the audio starts - but it is not there.
If you render these in Vegas and uncheck the "include audio" box in the rendering settings, then it it a purely video file and the overview should get built instantly. I assume there is a similar setting in FCP to render without audio

My mp4's with no audio take a longs ass time to build overviews and my files aren't busted. If i uncheck audio in Mediacoder (which is all i use to encode) and get an mp4 with just video, it takes forever to build overviews.

I just gave them all a BPM value of 1 and don't include them in overview building (Scratch LIVE wants to rebuild the overview every time, even in 1.8.3)

i must be tripping cause now i made 2 mp4s with no audio from the same vob and both overviews where built quick.
1st MP4 (audio but no sound) i unchecked audio in vegas AVI (uncompressed) render. then encoded to mp4 in MediaCoder with audio checked. built fine
2nd MP4 (no audio) i checked audio in vegas AVI (uncompressed) render. then encoded to mp4 in MediaCoder with audio unchecked. built fine
i don't get why some of my mp4s with no sound (or audio at all) take forever and some don't. same steps everytime...

We should start a new thread for everyone having looooong overview build times with certain video files, so we can keep this thread on topic :)
I suggest using MovieInfoBatch to get the details of the files taking forever to overview build and post the results here, but in the new thread ;)
MovieInfoBatch can be found here -->> www.scratchlive.net

it's 2010 now and I am having the same problem where at the end of the night VSL want to reanalyze everything I played since the last time. Worse yet, It still doesn't save the trtack overviews when it does reanalyze.
This is on a brand new MBP i7 17" which only has the newest version of VSL and SSL. Please advise.
