Scratch LIVE Feature Suggestions
What features would you like to see in Scratch LIVE?
MIX IN KEY FEATURE
I know it has been brought up before but it would be nice to have a auto key reader. ssl has a bpm counter,
it can also have a mix in key feature...anyone else agree?

I highly agree. May be not a key reader but a key tab to put all your keys if u have done them already. Also the option to show it on the info of the song playing next to the bpm or under.

I use mixed in key but only save the key data to the artsist info. For two reasons it doesn't screw up my track name as some of them can be quite long and putting the key info in there can result in a loss of info. Secondly if its in the artist info all I have to do is sort ascending/descending when in ssl.

Let add a section for the key and a key reader (like the bpm reader) would be even better. I HIGHLY recommend adding this feature.

So you'd want a button on the interface to allow you to adjust the key or not (similar to how you have a button to quell the pitch change when adjusting the tempo)??
why not have a drop-down box on the interface) (if you opt for it in the settings) to select what key to track is transposed to?
Just a thought...

Well, I don't care if I have to use another program to write the keys to the tags, as you can't do it on the fly anyway. But it would really help to get a visual aid to see which tracks might match the one currently playing. And that shouldn't be too complicated to implement.
So why don't use MixedInKey or RapidEvolution to write the tags, save the ressoures at serato for useful things and just have a small green dot in the grouping tag for songs that might match?

I agree whole heartedly. Mixed In Key is one of the coolest programs out there. I'd like to see tag support for the key tags it writes! I don't need anything fancier than that. I can sort by key in whichever crate I'm browsing.
Although... hierarchal tag sort would be great. Sort by key, and then BPM? so now all your songs in A# are grouped together and sorted top to bottom from slowest to fastest?
The possibilities of having what key a song is in, at my fingertips, blows my mind. I have a pretty good memory, but there are definitely times I forget what key a song is in. I think it would encourage me to get far more creative behind the booth...
Anywho, I've got a plus one, but just for Mixed In Key tag support, and maaaybe hierarchal tag sorting.

Yeah this would be a good feature but in order to really make it work you need to be able to tag the Title of the song. This is a must so when your mixing the key code is on your screen while your mixing. Also, it would also make sense to have a start key and end key because many songs have different keys. This is a feature rapid evolution has but there software is pretty buggy.

I dunno, can't you just use your ear to know what key the song playing is in?

Why wouldn't you want to know? The more information like that at your finger tips, the better you will be able to spin in the club. Being able to have a column for key signatures would be incredibly valuable.

No no, you misunderstand me ryacky. You should've read my post before that, where I praised Mixed In Key and the idea of adding more information. I was just saying it's a little pointless to tell me the key of the song that's already playing, is in.
Much like I can tell you how fast the song that is playing is, I can tell you what key it's in. The benefit of seeing the key on screen that is playing at 100+ Db in the club I'm at is pretty small with the amount of work they'd have to do to completely change the interface. However, knowing what BPM or key it's in BEFORE I drop the record? very valuable. It's very tough for me to remember the BPM and key of every song I have on my harddrive. Hell I still have plenty of 'marked' vinyl with tons of information, like intro length, BPM, key, etc. It would definitely save precious seconds in choosing that next track.
My solution? Let's not rebuild the entire GUI, just to display the key up top (unless it's giving me real time analysis...that'd be a different story) just give me a new column with a place to sort the "InitialKey" tag, and I'll be a happy DJ camper
