Recently I have found that my crates keep moving around.

I set up my crates in the order i want and then i shut down serato, then when i open it again my crates have moved and ones i have deleted reappear.

This is really annoying and the songs are in the wrong place.

All my tracks are on my laptop, not an external.

Would appreciate some help, thanks.

Where are they stored in on the internal drive?

Do you have overviews built on all of your music?

Have you removed all of the bad / corrupt files?

They are all stored in a folder called music on my mac's harddrive.

All the music have overviews built.

There are probably some bad/corrupt files hanging around in serato, I havent deleted them all.

try deleting the neworder.pref file located in the scratchlive folder. It will make your crates order alphabetical and then you can arrange them how you would like them. Once you close Scratchlive it should write the new order to the new "neworder.pref" file

Right, tried what you have said above, it hasnt helped though.
It worked as you say above but after a little while the same problems keep happening, crates keep moving around, old crates pop back in, and the orders within the crates move around.

I want to sort this before I spend hours sorting my crates out how I like them. Any ideas?

What about the bad/corrupt files you mentioned before?

Thanks

if you have them in your library they could indeed cause this. You will know which ones are the bad / corrupt files because they have an icon next to them that looks like a cd with a crack / lightning bolt through it.

You will find those files after building overviews. Have you built overviews on ALL of your music?
Dazzler* 12:45 AM - 12 December, 2008
yes overviews built on all. There are some corrupt files, probably 40 odd. I will delete them, and then rebuild overviews to be sure.

Is it the total delete (off the hardrive as well) or just out of the library?

Thanks

just out of the library.

What could have happened is that it corrupted your database file. If it has, things will still move. If so we can rename. Hopefully it isn't corrupt and deleting those files from the library will make the difference.

ok ive deleted all corrupt files, now going to rebuild all files. Will take ages so will leave it overnight and see what happens tomorrow!

Where are you getting your songs from? It sounds like everytime you import a new batch of music this happens. You also find corrupt files everytime.

It was working fine for a good 2 weeks, luckily for me over the xmas and NYE it was fine. Just now today, I just imported some new tracks and bang, it happens again and all my hard work sorting crates is in the dust.

Songs are from the net (relaiable good sources, dj pools etc), ripped off cd's, copied off friends machines etc.

In fact I downloaded and added a handfull of tunes of NYE and no problems

But today when I imported, it went haywire and a whole load of tunes suddenly bcame corrupted, about 30 or more songs.

What could this be?

It makes me have to think about it. In the meantime, try the new 1.8.3 version. Try importing some music and see if it goes haywire.

Have you been able get your crates using the ones in backup folder?
