Hello, I just started using SSL 1.8.2...
also just started using a new laptop vista (unfortuantely), however I dont see any problems with vista yet (after doing the optimization suggestions).
OK, If I Change the tag info on any song, like the song, artist, or grouping field.. It looks like everything is fine until i later click on the same song again. it reverts back to the old info.
fyi -
My song files are not read only...
songs are on the same external drive ive always used..
protect library is not checked..
windows vista 64 bit

Sounds like the info isn't getting saved. You said the files are not "read only", how much room do you have left on your HD?
Once you finish your overviews, look for icons that look like a CD with a crack or a lightning bolt through it. Those are bad / corrupt files. Having them in your library can cause corruption of the database, which could cause info loss.
Once all that is done make some changes, rescan the tags and all should be well.

I have 125 gigs free on my drive.
I did what you said, and deleted my corrupt files.
Ive noticed something else On the songs where i can not change the tag info:
When I drag a "working" mp3 into the deck, the overview snaps on the screen instantly, however, on the songs that the tags wont save, they seem to also not sae the overview because ecah time i drag it to the screen, it slowly loads it as if its building right then. If i take that song out of the deck and then put it back in again, it will build the overview again, even though it obviously just did.
fyi - If i click on the build overview button, it says that all overviews are built.

sounds like those files are "read only". The overviews and of all the other info isn't sticking to them.

I checked properties & the "read only" box was not not checked.
Do you think it could have something to do with vista 64 bit?

Just to make sure I'm understanding you though, there are padlock icons next to the music name in Scratchlive? If so, they can't be saved too. If not try the below.
try renaming your databaseV2 folder. It is located in your scratchlive folder on the HD your music is being read from. You will want to close Scratchlive while you are doing this. Rename the DatabaseV2 file to databasev2broken. Open Scratchlive and that will create a new databaseV2 file. Make some changes to the tags, close scratchlive and then reopen. Did the changes stick?

Thanks for the reply.
- No, there are not any padlock icons next to my song files (no corrupt icons either).
- Initially I thought it was ALL my songs with this problem, but it was just a coincidence. Most of my tags can be written to and i have no problems. But I have come across about 20 files so far (since I began using vista 64 & SSL 1.8.2).
- The files are not read only
- I renamed the DatabaseV2 file like you recommended. SSL automatically created a new one when i restarted SSL. But the problem still occurs.
To fix the songs, I need to convert the mp3 to Wav, then back to mp3 again & the newly created mp3 is fine. that procedure sux though. :)
I'll send you one of the troubled mp3s just in case you notice something.
* I have started doing a few things different, so maybe the cause is related: I've recently (1) switched to a new laptop which is vista 64 bit, (2) Transferred all my music to my internal drive and do not use an external drive anymore (except for backup), and (3) I started using SSL 1.8.2
Thanks again for your help.

Ok I uploaded one of the problem mp3s.
Also, please disregard #2 (where I listed "using internal drive") as a possible reason because i just realized that this issue was occurring last week when i was still using the EXTERNAL drive.
thanks.

What was the version of ID3 tag before the conversion and then after the conversion? I'm thinking it might have to do with what "version" of ID3 tag you are using. If so, then you can always batch convert them. You should retain all of the song / artist / album info doing this but you might lose the cues / loops and overviews.

Got your file, and I can see what the problem is:
There are a few incorrectly formed tags in there- "WOAF", "WOAR", and "WOAS" - these tags have zero length, which is wrong according to the ID3 spec. Wherever it was that this file came from, the tagging utility that was used has a bug in it.
Unfortunately when there's only one way for something to be correct, it's very hard to guess in advance all the ways it might be done incorrectly, and Scratch LIVE doesn't currently recognise or handle a tag which is malformed like this.
If you have a decent MP3 tag editor and you know how to do it you can remove these tags, and the problem will go away. Alternatively you could strip the tag off completely and add a new tag for these files - there's a way to do this in iTunes if you use it. Otherwise you could wait for us to put a workaround into Scratch LIVE, which will come in an upcoming version...

thank you!
your reply just saved me so much unneccessary wasted time!
I just opened "MP3 Tag Tools" and there was a button on there to erase tags. so i did that to a few problem mp3 files and sure enough the overviews are sticking now. it even fixed a file that was marked corrupt.
- im not able to see the messed up tags or anything (my mp3 taggin program doesnt show those fields you mentioned) but regardless, once i press "delete tag info", the files retain their overviews and also their tag info when i go back into serato and edit them.
Thanks again for explaining this to me and solving my problem.
