Serato Software Feature Suggestions

What features would you like to see in Serato software?

Use Songbird as the default music library software rather than itunes

I'm guessing people could come up with a Serato version of Songbird and than if everyone moves over to this rather than itunes, Serato could implement it into their software, it's opensource

The Open Music Player

Songbird is an open-source customizable music player that's under active development.

We're working on creating a non-proprietary, cross platform, extensible tool that will help enable new ways to playback, manage, and discover music. There are lots of ways to contribute your time to the project. We'd love your help!

There are several features we're proud of, but we'll be the first to admit that others need ironing out, are experimental, or are just plain missing. There's still a lot to do.

Wow, nice.

Smart playlists....!

It really looks like this could be the answer to the itunes problem. Once everything gets a little bit more stable, Serato could make there own version and give it away for free.

I'm sure someone around here could probably do it, since the Serato guys are probably busy updating Serato for me to be compatible with ableton Live

Seems like an option, still good reason for it to stay beta IMO.
It consumes the double amount of memory compared to iTunes, even a little more than SSL (Identical libraries). And it performs very slow with large libraries, Locks up the app for a good couple of minutes when conducting a simple search. (OSX 10.5.5) Still, I like the open source approach, as long as it will run stable. (I'ts been locked up the whole time Ive been wrinting this, just running a five letter search...)

This could be a good plan, maybe once it's a bit more refined (as WarpNote mentioned, it's a bit of a memory sink!).

A version specifically for SSL would be the shit though!

I'm guessing youre on a PC? iTunes on OSX is quite different.

Songbird on mac, was very sluggish, nearly non-working.
I'll have a go at the new 1.0 version to see if its any better...

yeah i do use itunes on pc, but as i said.... itunes is also sluggish on the g5's at work. just figured it was one of those things.

does it really matter if songbird is sluggish? It isn't open when running Serato. Would be sweet to run my smart playlists with Serato.

well... if you use your library for both dj'ing and listening to music - id say it matters.

songbird needs watched folders, that will be the nail in itunes coffin... until then, im staying with wmp11.

i browse using windows explorer, and play using wmp11 (cause it loads fast, and stays on the taskbar out of the way).

Most sluggish programs will turn out to be unstable/unreliable, especially when they need to handle larges sets of data. Ie: not ready for prime time...

I have no doubt the songbird developers know what they are doing. Still, not practical to use with large libraries under osx 10.5.5, on a macbook pro (1.0 version). Also they need to add folders the interface (to allow list hierarchy like itunes/SSL), might be some plug in that does it, but IMO this should be core functionality.

Dont wanna come of as bashing this software, I think it has great promise. I just need a little more work. And competition in the any software marked is great for us, - the users....
