Every time I re-scan my id3 tags, it changes the category of my genres to "other" for those files that I have edited manually...They show properly in iTunes and as part of the solution I changed my ID3 tags to 2.3v and the problem still persists....Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello 4-JRod,

Did you strip the id3 tag to 'none' prior to changing them to version 2.3?
It sounds like there is too much id3 tag info in the files that is confusing SSL.

No, I don't think I did...I just highlighted the songs, I right clicked, then selected "convert to id3" tags and changed it from "none" to 2.3v....Just as a side note, the very first time I did that, it changed most of my genres to the right name, but not all of them...That's when I tried to "rescan id3 tags" in ssl and it changed them back to "other"....I can go back and change them manually in SSL, but I am afraid that if I need to run another "rescan", i will change my genres back again.

Thanks,
Jonathan

I would try converting one of the files to 'none' and then to version '2.3' and see if that fixes your issue.
I'm going to guess it will.

Really anytime tag information isn't saving its due to too much tag information in the file. Stripping it to 'none' and converting to '2.3' will fix it.

Note: Stripping tags will delete any cue points, loops, or overview information.

Try it on one file first.

Hey Zach: I tried what you suggested and it worked...However, it created another problem...When I strip the files to "none", it also erases my current genre in itunes; in other words, I will have to re-enter all my genres in itunes for them to reflect properly in ssl...Is there another way or sugguestions around this other issue?

I believe it only strips the genre when using an older version of iTunes.
Make sure your using the current version of iTunes and if your not, update and try again.

Unfortunately I have the latest version of itunes (8.01)...So is this means what I think it means??

If its stripping the genre field than I would strip the files in chunks by genre.
Once stripped you can then highlight all the files, right click to 'get info', and edit the genre field back to what it was. Quick and easy:)
